The 2041 NBADSL Draft was in a word, epic. The coming draft looks like it will be great, but it will have to live up to this one.
A ton of future stars came out of this draft, so let's take a look at what would happen if the draft was re-done knowing what we know now.
1st Overall - Larry Hughes SG 25 6'5'' 185 A- A- C A C C (+12 spots)
Current Stats: 39.9 mpg 32.6 ppg 6.9 rpg 4.3 apg 2.8 spg 0.3 bpg 2.5 topg .490 FG% .777 FT% .434 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2045 - All-League Second Team
2045 - All-Defensive Team
2046 - 3-Point Shootout Champion
2046 - All-Star Game Participant
2046 - All-League First Team
2047 - All-Star Game Participant
This was a tough call because there are so many great players to choose from, but Hughes gets the nod here with the 1st overall pick. He has no holes in his game, can play both PG and SG and is one of the best defenders in the league. He is currently leading the league in scoring by two points and has become a dominant player.
2nd Overall - Theodoros Papaloukas PG 26 6'6'' 225 B A- A- B C C (+7 spots)
Current Stats: 39.3 mpg 25.7 ppg 6.1 rpg 10.0 apg 2.2 spg 0.2 bpg 2.7 topg .469 FG% .771 FT% .437 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Second Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2043 - Most Valuable Player
2043 - All-Defensive Second Team
2044 - All-Star Game Participant
2044 - Most Valuable Player
2044 - All-League First Team
2045 - All-Star Game Participant
2045 - All-League Second Team
2046 - All-Defensive Second Team
2047 - All-Star Game Participant
Based on accolades, Papa would surely be 1st overall, but at present, he is not a better player than Hughes. Papa remains a top-3 point guard and has been for the last 6 seasons. He's great on both ends of the floor and despite for some reason turning the ball over more than ever, he is still an absolute beast.
3rd Overall - Robert Traylor C 27 6'10'' 290 A- D+ D+ A- B+ C (+8 spots)
Current Stats: 35.5 mpg 25.0 ppg 12.2 rpg 1.7 apg 0.7 spg 2.2 bpg 1.7 topg .504 FG% .649 FT% .000 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - Rookie Game MVP
2041 - All-Rookie Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2042 - Rookie Game MVP
In a league with a lot of good bigs, Traylor lacks the accolades, but looking at his stats, he has consistently gotten better each year over his career. Traylor is the anchor on a Wizards team that is among the best in the league and undoubtedly the best player on a team with no all-stars.
4th Overall - Shawn Marion PF 27 6'8'' 233 B+ B- D+ A- A- C (-1 spot)
Current Stats: 35.9 mpg 15.0 ppg 13.6 rpg 1.7 apg 1.9 spg 3.7 bpg 1.8 topg .423 FG% .774 FT% .369 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - Rookie of the Year
2041 - All-League Third Team
2041 - All-Rookie Team
2041 - All-Defensive Team
2043 - All-Defensive Second Team
2046 - All-Star Game Participant
2046 - All-Defensive Second Team
Marion has always been a beast on the boards and defensively, but hasn't been able to be a convincing star on the offensive end. One thing is for sure with Marion, he wins games and he dominates defensively. It was tough putting him ahead of Paul Pierce, but I think he may be more valuable.
5th Overall - Paul Pierce SG 27 6'8'' 225 A- A- C C+ C C (-3 spots)
Current Stats: 37.2 mpg 30.7 ppg 6.9 rpg 3.0 apg 1.5 spg 0.5 bpg 2.7 topg .485 FG% .781 FT% .392 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Second Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2045 - All-Star Game Participant
2045 - All-League Second Team
Pierce can score. He can score like hell. He is currently in his third season averaging over 30 points per game, which is absolutely incredible. He's not a liability on defense, but could stand to improve. In terms of shooting guards, he is an above average rebounder. He was the toughest guy to rank on this list, because you could make a case that he could be #2 on this list.
6th Overall - Manu Ginobili SG 26 6'7'' 219 B- A- B A- C- C (same spot)
Current Stats: 35.7 mpg 18.8 ppg 5.4 rpg 3.9 apg 2.6 spg 0.2 bpg 2.3 topg .432 FG% .889 FT% .427 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Team
Ginobili has come into his own in recent years on both ends of the floor. Manu has been a really solid starter on the team with the best record in a very crowded Eastern Conference.
7th Overall - Dirk Nowitzki PF 26 7'1'' 237 B+ A- D+ B- C+ C (-6 spots)
Current Stats: 33.6 mpg 18.3 ppg 9.2 rpg 1.7 apg 0.9 spg 1.3 bpg 1.7 topg .436 FG% .784 FT% .375 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Team
Dirk was selected 1st overall and hasn't really lived up to that billing, although in most other drafts, he would be close. Dirk is the perfect big man in an outside offense and was part of last year's championship team. It would be interesting to see what he could do as a top option.
8th Overall - Jason Williams PG 27 6'1'' 190 C A- A+ B+ D C (+12 spots)
Current Stats: 40.1 mpg 15.6 ppg 4.5 rpg 11.3 apg 1.9 spg 0.1 bpg 2.4 topg .449 FG% .831 FT% .371 3P%
2047 - All-Star Game Participant
Jason Williams has really turned the corner in his career, becoming a first-time all-star recently and doing so on a really talented team. There were several big steals in this draft and Williams is certainly one of them.
9th Overall - Rashard Lewis SF 25 6'10'' 215 B A- C- B- C C (-1 spot)
Current Stats: 25.4 mpg 19.7 ppg 4.8 rpg 1.7 apg 1.2 spg 0.2 bpg 3.0 topg .431 FG% .809 FT% .402 3P%
No Awards
Lewis is putting up absolutely ridiculous scoring numbers off the bench. He is averaging around 28 ppg per-36. While he has never won an award, he has had incredible output throughout his career offensively.
10th Overall - Jermaine O'Neal PF 26 6'11'' 226 A- C- C B+ B C (-6 spots)
Current Stats: 31.6 mpg 13.0 ppg 11.0 rpg 2.0 apg 0.8 spg 1.3 bpg 1.7 topg .412 FG% .696 FT% .000 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Second Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
Jermaine has always had good ratings that he has never lived up to. He's a solid big who is a borderline starter in the league. His shooting percentages and scoring output have always been poor.
11th Overall - Raef Lafrentz PF 27 7'0'' 250 B B- C B+ B C (-4 spots)
Current Stats: 33.7 mpg 18.1 ppg 9.9 rpg 2.9 apg 0.7 spg 1.6 bpg 1.4 topg .416 FG% .750 FT% .372 3P%
No Awards
Raef has had a quietly successful career and is another player who would excel in an outside offense. He does a little bit of everything on the court and doesn't have any real liabilities. Would be a starter on most teams.
12th Overall - Michael Olowokandi PF 27 7'1'' 275 B- D D B+ B- B (-8 spots)
Current Stats: 24.1 mpg 8.6 ppg 7.9 rpg 1.2 apg 0.7 spg 0.9 bpg 0.8 topg .432 FG% .560 FT% .000 3P%
2041 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
2041 - All-Rookie Second Team
2042 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
Just like in reality, Olowakandi ended up being a bust who never lived up to his potential. Regardless of that, Olowakandi is a really solid bench big man who can do a little bit of everything, but is above average at nothing.
13th Overall - Mike Bibby PG 26 6'2'' 190 C B+ B B+ C- C (+1 spot)
Current Stats: 12.5 mpg 4.8 ppg 1.7 rpg 2.7 apg 0.7 spg 0.1 bpg 0.6 topg .438 FG% .867 FT% .302 3P%
No Awards
Bibby is a serviceable backup PG. His per-36 numbers make him a run of the mill starter, although he would have a pretty solid assist/TO ratio if these numbers held up.
A ton of future stars came out of this draft, so let's take a look at what would happen if the draft was re-done knowing what we know now.
1st Overall - Larry Hughes SG 25 6'5'' 185 A- A- C A C C (+12 spots)
