#1 Cleveland Cavaliers vs #8 Atlanta Hawks
Regular Season Match-up: Cavaliers 3 - Hawks 1.
Key Match Up - Hardaway vs Artamonov: Long considered two of the top point guards in the league, Artamonov and Hardaway are looking at a collision course for yet another year in the playoffs. While Klym has had the better of him in the past, the Cavs this time have the better team. Two-thirds of the Big 3 that defeated Cleveland in a memorable Game 7 during Atlanta's championship are gone, with Hardaway and Artamonov the two lone survivors of that series. Can Artamonov's defense win out?
Series Prediction - Cavaliers 4 def. Hawks 2: In a series with 6 different players averaging 20+ ppg, there is sure to be scoring. However the Cavs have the tools necessary to both score on par with Atlanta, while also having key defenders in the right position (namely SF), that can get the job done. Peja will have a tough series, and the Cavs will come out on top in 6 in a high scoring match-up.
#2 Washington Wizards vs #7 New York Knicks
Regular Season Match-up: Wizards 3 - Knicks 1.
Key Match Up - Traylor vs Yao: These two could see a lot of each other over the course of their careers, as they are only 26 and 23 respectively. With near identical stats in every category possible, these two will no doubt control the pace of the series. I have to give the edge to Traylor however, with Yao committing 3.4 fouls per game and having fouled out 13 times this season. Combine that with the inside focus of the Wizards, plus the tandem of Traylor and Zo, I think Yao will struggle in this series.
Series Prediction - Wizards 4 def. Knicks 3: On paper the Knicks should be a 55 win team, even close to 60. Amazing depth at every position, but then again, so do the Wizards. In the end I think Yao might run into foul trouble and that will sway the series, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks managed to cause an upset here.
NEVER MIND. Payton injured? Sheesh. #FuckInjuries. New prediction: Wizards 4 def. Knicks 1. Obradovic gets his freak on against the likes of Juan Carlos Navarro and Keyon Dooling.
#3 Orlando Magic vs #6 Indiana Pacers
Regular Season Match-up: Magic 2 - Pacers 2
Key Match Up - Stoudamire vs Marbury: Two athletic point guards who recently joined new teams to find new levels of success. Both are exceptional rebounders for the PG position, and both distribute the ball well. In the end I think it comes down to the takeover factor, and for that, I'd have to give it to Marbury. I think he is in for a big series and he will have to bring it if the Pacers want to match up.
Series Prediction - Magic 4 def. Pacers 2: The Magic just have too many weapons, and while the Pacers have a few quality wing defenders, I think the Magic will be too much for them. The Pacers can either decide to go with Felton on Pierce, and try to match the Magic blow for blow, or sub in Lewis with his pretty ordinary %s and try and slow Pierce down. In the end I think the Magic come out in a tough series, Marbury and Timmy alone winning 2 games for the Pacers.
#4 Brooklyn Nets vs #5 Chicago Bulls
Regular Season Match-up: Bulls 3 - Nets 1
Key Match Up - Hill vs Kittles: The battle of randomly good point guards. I think whoever plays more consistently will give their team the best chance to win. I would give the edge to Kyle Hill; good percentages and he's putting up impressive numbers in limited minutes, but then again this is Chicago and they come out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber when the playoffs start so fuck it, I'm going with Kittles.
Series Prediction - Bulls 4 def. Nets 2: The Bulls have too many weapons and too many budding stars, led by Odom. The Nets are like the real life Hawks in the season gone by; surprisingly good, but will fall apart in the playoffs. Odom will dominate this series and will be backed up well by Melo and JJ.
