Taking the next step
This article will focus on some of the guys in the league who drastically improved from last season. Went from starter to star or potential star to super star. A perfect example from a past season would be Lamar Odom exploding so that’s a shout out to my boy bloop make sure ya girl sings that prenup.
1. Larry Hughes- It kind of pisses me off how good he is for no reason at all. I thought last year when he was scoring 24 a game it was a little excessive, but this year he took a huge leap. He is now passing the ball better and shooting the long ball better. He is scoring fucking 34 ppg which I think leads the league. Quite the bargain for pick 13 in the draft.
I assume AAR or someone from the league made this shirt to wear during sims
2. Ron Artest- With out much change besides his salary Artest has made huge strides for Memphis his first year off his rookie contract. Last season he had a career high of 16 points per game. Ron shot 37 % from deep in that season but it seems he worked on his stroke a bit because this year he is shooting 41% from 3 and scoring 25 a game to lead his grizzlies at only 23 years old.
3. Shawn Marion- His stats haven’t jumped all that much this season but his overall impact on the game is pretty insane. Last season he was scoring 11 a game and grabbing 12.3 boards this seasohe has not only improved his FT% but he is also grabbing 4 more boards a game to have 16 per contest which not even KAJ did which is stupid IMO. He also is scoring 16 a game.
4. Samiki Walker- This guy was starting to look like he would be a lifer as a D and Reb specialist. Last season he had some minor scoring ability getting 12 game but now he has jumped to nearly 18 points per game upped his rebounds to 12.3 and increased his blocks to 2.7 per game. It would be interesting to see if he could be a 20 point scorer if his GM worked on him a bit. 20-12-4 center on 10 mil a year that’s a wild bargin. Former memphis draft pick btw!
5. Kenyon Martin- I offered him a max in the offseason hoping he would live up to the notes. Luckily for the Suns he returned home to take the next step. He made such a jump the Suns were wanting to move Sabonis to make room for him to start. For someone who has B- reb he is grabbing 11.5 a game which is a 4 rebound jump from last season. He is also scoring 16.5 a game when last year he could not even get to double digits. The thing you have to love about him is that he is also an amazing FT shooter for a big at 84%
6. Pau Gasol- This guy was starting to look like a waste of life in San Antonio. Maybe Kobe called him a pussy and he decided to step up. He still cant rebound for shit which sucks for his team but he is scoring more than double his career average at 18.5 PPG. He should seriously just stop shootin 3 pointers all together. He has taken 8 this year for what ever reason. On another positive note his blocking is starting to come to form. His ratings still seem pretty raw so the hopes for Pau are there.
7. Jason Richardson- Last year he was traded mid season and since then he has gotten more time and more opportunity to show what he is capable of. This offseason he worked on his outside scoring and defense and it has paid off. He is getting 1.6 steals a game and has upped his scoring from 13 per contest to 22. He should be a staple in GS going forward.
Moses Grutrie- Not sure if he should be on here because he did not play last year. His Gm thought his lack of skill warranted him to go train in the D league and it seemed to pay off. He is scoring 21 points a game on good % and grabbing some boards as well for the Celtics.
Honorable Mention
Steve Francis- If he was getting PG starter min I think he would be making a large jump +6 in points this year already
Elton Brand- He is showing the progression to become a star but is not getting the starter min to put the stats up yet
Eddy Curry- His stats have improved but not sure if that is just a product of him being on a bad squad.
I would have done more guys but honestly not too many caught my eye. Wade and Jalen rose improved drastically on assists but that may just be position change.
