The criteria for this will be the players current statistics, ratings mixed in with age and what I think they value in terms of future production. This will rank the top players to build around if you had one guy to start with who would it be. Also selecting for what they will do not what they have done.
Honorable Mention in no order
Tim Duncan
Milos
Steph Marbury
Benji Wilson
Larry Hughes
Allen Iverson
Chris Webber
Marcus Camby
10. Yao Ming B C D B+ B+ A
- 16.6 10.5 1.0 0.4 1.7 1.0 .508 .892 .000
There is just something to love about a 7 ft 6 asian freak of nature. As a rookie he is proving to be a good player but looking 10 years down the road he could be A- C+ A A and put up shaq like stats but with great FT %. Going one this past draft he is definitely tempting to take up quick in a fantasy draft it would be interesting to see where he would go.
9. Tmac B A C A- C+ C
-36.8 25.2 8.2 2.6 1.4 0.8 2.3 .455 .907 .455
It was a risky pick because of his stipulation however it paid off for the GM. Tmac is 22 years old and already scoring 25 points per game and has A outside. I would not be surprised to see him in his prime with B+ A A and B- rebounding which could leave him as a 30 10 small forward who can defend really well. Some people love scoring and he can do it as well as anyone and mixing in his age he is a gms dream to have on their team.
8. Penny Hardaway A- B A- B C- C
- 38.9 29.0 4.9 11.4 2.2 0.1 2.9 .443 .854 .362
Penny has won multiple MVP awards and is currently putting up more MVP numbers but too bad his current team sucks which makes me think maybe he can not carry a team. He should be a player you would take if you wanted to win now and for the next couple of years. He is very dominant and is getting paid a fair price for his services.
Shaq- A- D+ D A- A C
-38.0 23.8 15.1 2.6 0.8 4.1 2.5 .438 .668 .000
Yes he is 31 but he is just so damn dominant at this age that if you did a redraft it would be very tempting to try and build a quick championship team around the next 3-5 years of Shaq. He is pulling down 15 boards and probably could be scoring 28-30 if the Bulls did not have a lot of scoring already. Also it is hard to ignore his blocking ability. Shaq is a dominant force and if you like to win and win now he could be your guy.
6. Klym Armantov C+ B+ A A D+ B
- 37.6 22.7 3.7 10.0 3.0 0.3 1.8 .485 .741 .533
This ugly fucker has been overachieving since day one. His scoring is down some this year but im sure if he was on a shitty team alone he would be scoring close to 30 a game. His great passing and D ratings and somehow B potential which gives room for growth on the 27 year old pedophile can lead to his value increasing as well. It would be interesting to see how high someone would pick him in a fantasy redraft.
5. Jason Kidd C A- A+ A C C
-24.1 7.8 11.8 3.2 0.2 4.4 .473 .777 .317
Very similar to Klym but in my eyes he is currently a tad more valuable. The way this guy is playing this year is nothing short of amazing. His base ratings are insane and his scoring is finally matching his all around production. He is leading the top team in the west and leading the league in assists and steals. It would be hard to pass up a player like this who is just entering his prime at the ripe age of 27.
4. Theodorors Papaloukas B- A- A B C B
- 39.5 25.2 6.5 8.8 1.8 0.2 1.8 .465 .661 .365
As much as I hate players like this who are over seas come in with stupid rating ect blah blah you can not deny his skill and him being the reigning MVP makes it hard for me to not put this guy higher on the list. He is a monster scorer and has a really good assist to TO ratio as well. To imagine if he was not on such a high scoring team he could be scoring more is actually rather scary. Well anyway fuck this guy but you would be hard pressed to deny you would not mind building around him.
papa himself after his MVP
3. Kobe Bryant- A- A- C+ A- C- C
-40.3 21.6 6.2 3.8 2.0 0.3 3.2 .403 .853 .367
Well it was fun to troll SRG and say Kobe was a bust while it lasted. Having two guys to build on over Bryant could be very arguable but I frankly don't give a fuck. He has great ratings and could one day be an A A A player which i'm not sure we have ever had, maybe Rose after super blew him. He is currently scoring 21 points a game but he is only 23 years old. One day we will see Kobe dominate the league like the great scorers before him such as the OG Kobe.
2. Dwane Wade- B C+ B- B+ C A
- 32.8 12.7 5.8 2.7 2.2 0.2 1.4 .424 .824 .182
yes I am bias on this but some may agree. Although his stats are not there wade is a once in a generation player. As a rookie He goes up to A- D at point guard will be a block and 2 steal a game player and is already capped in 6 maybe more categories. At 20 years old once he develops it could be scary to see the true wade. He has a great mid range stroke and can score inside. As long as you are not heart set on an outside focus team there is no reason to not pick Wade. Had to put him over Kobe because he can run point.
1. Kevin Garnett- A- C C- A- A- B
-PF 25 33.0 22.1 13.2 1.9 1.4 2.9 1.5 .468 .785 .167
It is honestly impossible to keep this guy out of the top 2 especially 1 because of his age and his current production. He is only 24 with a lot of room for growth at a position that is usually full of late bloomers. KG is also currently on a winning team but it is safe to assume if you had a clean slate you would start off with a player like KG who could be putting up 32-15-5 in his prime like the late Joel Embiid.
