We will be looking at all rookies TC's and what they did in the offseason.
1. Knicks:
Yao Ming
Pre: C 7'6'' 310 21 B- C D B- C+ A
Post: C 7'6'' 310 21 B C D B+ B A
TC: +5
Offseason: Yao worked out with Qi this offseason. Yao got a huge boost defensively with an offseason full of one on one sessions. Qi at 7'3" is the perfect big to work on post moves as he is probably one of the only bigs that can give a well contested shot. Yao also had to defend Qi out on the perimeter which helped his quickness and Yao really got a good experience defending a greatly skilled player like Qi. Qi/ Woo/ Wang/ and Yao all played international ball as well this offseason. Yao at Center and Qi at PF were the stars of the team. Really made Yao a much better rebounded too. Yao had a great offseason!
2. Grizzlies:
Dwyane Wade
Pre: SG 6'4'' 212 20 B C C+ B- C A
Post:SG 6'4'' 212 20 B C+ C+ B+ C A
TC: +3
Offseason: Wade feels the pressure of having of having so many young players on the team as he want to emerge as the main man on the team but With Dirk/ Artest/ and Rashard Lewis being under 25 on the team as well as Sheed and Stoudamire being 26/ 27 respectively it is tough to see Wade get a lot of shots. . Wade worked hard in the offseason improving his Jump Shot and 3 ball some like Turnarounds and Step backs. Many team scrimmages within the team really boosted his defensive awareness as he did not like getting embarrassed by players or hearing Sheed giving him shit. Wade looks good after the offseason.
3. Spurs:
Pau Gasol
Pre: PF 7'0'' 227 21 B- C C B- C+ A
Post: PF 7'0'' 227 B- C C C+ C+ B
TC: -1
Offseason: Pau had a rough offseason he had to compete against 24yo Shareef who just was too much too handle in Training camp. Pau just seemed to lose too much strength wise against him defensively. Really putting a hole into his confidence. He still has potential but will another young PF take some shine off of his game? only time will tell
4. Pacers:
Gilbert Arenas
Pre: PG 6'3'' 191 19 C+ B+ C C D+ B
Post: PG 6'3'' 191 19 C+ A- C C+ D+ B
TC: +2
Offseason: Arenas had come into the league as a really average defender to a competent one. Arenas looks to be a score first PG and really upped his three ball and Jump shot as he competed against Bibby constantly really paid off finding new ways to score. He should focus his efforts on really controlling the ball for next season though or he could be moved at SG or seen as just a 6th man but if he continues to improve he could be a starter soon.
5. Cavalers:
Zach Randolph
Pre: PF 6'9'' 253 20 B- C D+ C B- B
Post: PF 6'9'' 253 20 B-C C- C B B
TC: +2
Offseason: Zach also had a mentor to guide him this offseason in Karl Malone. Although Zach wasn't able to learn the defensive schemes really quickly he did pick up plenty of work outs from the Great Karl Malone. Zach became so much stronger and that has helped him on the offensive and defensive boards. Looks like he gained some quickness which helps his rebounding some too. Should be a good player this season as a good rebounder is always needed.
6. Heat:
Jason Richardson
Pre: SG 6'6'' 220 20 B- C+ C C+ C A
Post: SG 6'6'' 220 20 B- B C+ B- C- A
TC: +4
offseason: Richardson played against Long the entire offseason. Richardson improved his handles some as Long brought him along runs improving stamina as well as workouts on handles right after those 2 mile runs. Richardson has great bounce but he saw he needed to improve his shot a lot more so he asked Long to help him out so they did a lot of turnaround jump shots as well as catch and shoot drills did. He worked got better defensively learning on the fly while defending Long. His rebounding dropped a little but he should be fine for now. Good TC for J-Rich
7. Bucks:
Louis Diamond
Pre: C 7'0'' 243 20 B- D+ D- C+ C C
Post: C 7'0'' 243 20 B D+ D B- C+ C
TC: +4
Offseason: Diamond was determined to become a better player in the offseason so he bashed on his young competitors to show the coaching staff he can be relied on. He dunked the ball as many times as he can seemed to gain a better understanding of the art of shot blocking. He gained a lot of confidence in Training camp. He does need to become a better FT shooter if he really wants to continue to his improvement but this is a great start as he can be of good service as a potential starter as a rookie.
8. Pistons:
Richard Jefferson
Pre: SF 6'7'' 222 21 C+ B- C C+ C A
Post: SF 6'7'' 222 21 B- B C B- C B
TC: +3
Offseason: Jefferson had a good offseason as he was mentored by the great Charlie Scott. Jefferson has been opened to the daily life of Scotts workout regime that has made him one of the greats of this league. Jefferson improved his inside with in control drives to the basket as well as letting the game come to him shooting solid jumpers with shot fakes and taking concise movements that minimize efficiency. He also improved defensively sliding his feet.
9. Bucks:
Hamamish Montgomerie
Pre: C 6'11'' 265 21 B- D C C C C
Post: C 6'11'' 265 21 B D+ C C+ C C
TC: +3
Hamish the Hammer was not much of a hammer this offseason. Diamond was just too good but interestingly enough it looks like Hamm shoots the ball better as Diamond kind of forced him to do so. Hopefully diamond doesn't destroy him too much so Hamm can actually get better in other areas like boards and defense. It does look like the Bucks saw that The Hammer needed some help so they took a few days to teach him some more post moves and understand the defensive schemes a bit more too.
10. Celtics(via Nuggets):
Troy Murphy
Pre:PF 6'11'' 245 21 C B- D+ C B- A
Post: PF 6'11'' 245 21 C B- C- C B+ A
TC: +3
Troy Murphy on draft night was traded to the Celtics where he learned from P.J Brown the best big man mentor money can buy (Only real thing he can do) and Dale Davis. Murphy did not get his defense into shape but did on the boards which at least shows grit on the court that both Dale and PJ got out of Murphy. Murphy also improved his speed some this offseason. Still lives of the Pick and Roll and spot up shots, the only thing he needs to get better at right now is his defense and his inside a bit.
11. Raptors:
Tito Maddox
Pre: PG 21 6'4'' 190 C C+ B- B- C D
Post: PG 21 6'4'' 190 C C+ C+ B- C C
TC: -1
Offseason: Tito had a bad offseason. He Refused help from Dee Brown who is pretty average himself but has a lot of heart. So Maddox was on his own most of the time. He didn't make extra time to hit the gym and it showed as he lost some speed and looked like he couldn't get past Dee's D and struggled.
12. Rockets:
Chuck "Allday" Newman
Pre: SG 6'4'' 185 22 C B C C+ C A
Post: SG 6'4'' 185 22 C B+ C B C A
TC: +3
Offseason: The only True SG on the team Chuck lives up to the name of "Allday" as he is lights out from 3. Chuck went ahead and worked in the gym constantly this offseason and improved defensively with a lot of defensive drills alone and taking on the challenge of defending the much bigger Tracy at times. He also improved his spot up shooting too. He is heading to the D-league in hopes of becoming better and familiarized to the life style of the game at its highest level.
13. Clippers:
Shane Battier
Pre: SF 6'8'' 220 21 C B- C B+ C B
Post: SF 6'8'' 220 21 C B C A- C+ B
TC: +3
Offseason: Battier had a great summer where Bowen showed him the defensive tricks that he picked up his career. Shane picked it up and has become an elite defender of his own. Worked on his Jump shot as well and saw improvements on his form and release. Shane also is looking like a tenacious rebounder. Good job Shane.
14. Raptors:
Matt Barnes
Pre: SF 6'7'' 235 21 C+ C+ C B C B
Post: SF 6'7'' 235 21 C+ B- C B- C B
TC: 0
Offseason: Barnes had a mix result type of offseason. Barnes shot the better with the help of Chuck Person but Barnes Defense dropped as he just seemed to be a little less stronger and not as quick as a lot of the players. Chuck ran circles around Matt. A mixed bag really.
15. Bucks Via Nets:
Angus Montgomerie
PF 6'11'' 250 21 C B- C+ C C B
PF 6'11'' 250 21 C B- B- C+ C- B
TC: +1
Offseason: Angus was a young player at PF surrounded by a deep front court. Angus is easily bullied by player on the glass. Angus Dropped as he looked lost on the rebounding department. Oddly Angus seemed to become a better Post defender really using his length to his advantage. Handle the ball really well too using speed and Handles to get by defenders. He is skilled if he were a SF but he looks like a Twener destined to be a bench player as of now. he needs to rebound much better that what he is right now.
16. Nets Via Bucks:
Juan Dela Cruz
Pre: SG 6'3'' 190 19 C+ C+ C+ C F+ B
Post: SG 6'3'' 190 19 C+ C+ C+ C+ F+ B
TC: +1
Offseason: Cruz had a good learning experience this offseason. Juan has always been offense minded but when he saw the talent of all the players on the team he saw he needed to improve defensively and he did just that even if it was just simply stating in front of his man and not losing rotations it payed off for the young guy. Looks to be a player that can nearly do it all just can't get a rebound at all but has a really advanced game for his age. He played some international play with the Philippines and was leading the team in scoring through out.
17. Nets Via Bucks:
Pablo Escobar
Pre: PG 6'3'' 215 19 C- C+ C+ C F+ C
Post: PG 6'3'' 215 19 C- C+ B C F+ A
TC: +2
Offseason: It was really busy offseason for Pablo really worked on his game. He is a great distributer at a young age. The only thing he is good at really. Just seems to like to get everyone involved. Pablo also played internationally with Colombia leading in APG. He had to learn quickly to become the leader of that team. Pablo learned plenty from Robert Pack on the art of the dribble and dishing. Pablo is good at finding opening on the defense. Would have been nice to see a more well rounded offseason but improvement is an improvement.
18. Lakers:
Jamaal Tinsley
Pre: PG 6'3'' 195 21 C C+ B- C+ D+ B
Post: PG 6'3'' 195 21 C B- B- B- D+ B
TC: +2
Offseason: Jamaal got to learn from solid player in Rod Strickland. Tinsley looks like he improved his jump shot some and also improved defensively. It is a small increment but it looks like Strickland it taking him under his wing and easing in the information for him. If Tinsley keeps learning he should become a good PG.
19. Knicks: traded to the Celtics
Samuel Dalembert
Pre: C 6'11'' 250 20 C C- D+ B- B- B
Post: C 6'11'' 250 20 C+ C- D+ B B+ B
TC: +4
Offseason: Samuel Dalembert was traded t o the Celtics where he flourished and learned all offseason. He now has a few good baby hooks a round the rim. He expanded his knowledge on defensive rotations as well as finding a knack for collecting rebounds. Sam looks ready to start at Center but the Celtics want him to learn even more and have decided to send him to the D-league. Sam seems to be that Defensive/rebounding type player.
20. Pacers via Hawks:
Justin Young
Pre: SG 6'5'' 185 20 C+ B- C C+ D+ C
Post: SG 6'5'' 185 20 C+ C+ C B- D+ C
TC: 0
Offseason: Young entered a team full of wings that really left Young without much attention this offseason. Young learned better defensively by his lonesome as he defended nearly every SG on the team, Young lost some of his shooting touch as coaches were too not pointing out some kinks on his shooting form. Way to many wing to see any true growth maybe he can get better but without guidance it seems tough.
21. Celtics:
Eddie Griffin:
Pre: PF 6'10'' 220 19 C+ C+ C- B- C+ C
Post: SF 19 6'10'' 220 C+ C+ C- A- C+ B
TC: +3
Offseason: Eddie Griffin had the privilege of learning from one of the better all-around players in the league in Bias and Paras. Griffin didn't gain anything scoring wise or on the boards but Griffin's defense sky rocketed to an above average level. Having to defend these two great really jumped Griffin defensively and has really helped him hold his own against other player in the league.
22. Hornets:
Ricky Spyr
Pre: PG 6'1'' 183 19 C C+ B- C+ D+ A
Post:PG 6'1'' 183 19 C B B C+ D+ B
TC: +3
Offseason: Spyr had a great offseason as he put his work ethic to the test. Spyr learned from role player Lindsey Hunter but it really paid off. Spyr picked up great shooting mechanics that the coaching staff has helped in. He worked early mourning until late after practice shooting the basket ball. Now an adept shooter Spyr looks to become a lethal weapon out side. Spyr also worked on his handle, as well as his quickness and learning the teams offensive plays. Spyr hopes he can one day become the starting PG but for now he will have to settle for a starting PG in the D-League. Keep improving and the starting role could be in his future.
23. Blazers:
Vladimir Radmanovic
Pre: SF 6'10'' 227 20 C B C- C+ C A
Post: SF 6'10'' 227 20 C B C- C+ C B
TC: 0
Offseason: Rad's english barrier was a little difficult this offseason as there was no up or down in his game, could be a good player once he does understand more what the coach wants from him as well as getting teammates to trust him.
24. Raptors:
DeSagana Diop
Pre:C 7'0'' 300 19 C D D B- B- B
Post: C 7'0'' 300 19 C D D B- B- C
TC: 0
Offseason:Rookie Diop had to compete with other young bigs which did not lead to much improvement as of now he should head to the D-League. He needs to be more adept really in everything if not he is bound to be a rotational player.
25. Cavs:
Dan Gadzuric
Pre: C 6'11'' 240 21 C C- D B C+ F
Post C 6'11'' 240 21 C C- D B C+ C
TC: 0
Offseason: Dan had to compete against Brad miller this offseason and there was no improvement what so ever but he seems like he has a neck for defense really which should land him a team for long time.
26. 76ers (via Celtics):
Marcus Taylor
Pre: SG 6'3'' 195 21 C+ C+ B- C+ C C
Post: SG 6'3'' 195 21 C+ C+ C+ C+ C D
TC: -1
Offseason: Taylor seems to had some stiff competition with Hamilton as the young Golden boy. Taylor seemed to have lost some speed this training camp but he can do little of everything he just needs to really find a niche in the league if wants to be successful in this league.
27. Nets:
Bruno Videl
Pre: SF 6'8'' 240 18 C C D+ B C- C
Post: SF 6'8'' 240 18 C C D B C- C
TC: -1
Offseason: Videl is a great defender which is something he has not let go but he did seem to lose the ball too much right now but if he can improve his jump shot and continue to play serviceable defense he should be a good player to keep.
28. Mavs (via Celtics):
Roger Mason
Pre: SG 6'5'' 200 21 C B C C+ C- A
Post: SG 6'5'' 200 21 C B+ C+ B- C- A
TC: +3
Offseason: Mason was passed up through out the draft and look to show the doubters wrong that they passed him up. Mason picked up the dedication and the art of the shot from the great Drazen. Mason increased his handle as he saw how Drazen uses his handle to get good controlled shots. Mason also had to defend Drazen so he really had to work to at least have some affect. If he continues to learn he should be a much better player.
29. Nets:
Mitch Poortman
Pre: SF 6'7'' 213 18 C D+ F+ D+ C+ F
Post: SF 6'7'' 213 18 C+ D+ D- C- C+ D
TC: +3
Offseason: Mitch was humbled after hearing rumors of not being selected at all in the draft but when the Nets selected him he was ecstatic and felt that the Nets have confidence he will improve like he did in high school and college. The Feeling of being wanted made Mitch put in a lot more effort into his game. At 18 he improved his handle some, his inside scoring crazy layup, as well as his defense even though it still is poor. He is still one great rebounder if he can get that defense up he can be a of use but for now he is most definitely a project.
So some ups and downs this off season but the class looks promising if they continue to improve. Best of luck to all the rookie this season either it be in the D-League or off the bench or starting from the get go.
1. Knicks:
Yao Ming
Pre: C 7'6'' 310 21 B- C D B- C+ A

Pre: SG 6'4'' 212 20 B C C+ B- C A

Offseason: Samuel Dalembert was traded t o the Celtics where he flourished and learned all offseason. He now has a few good baby hooks a round the rim. He expanded his knowledge on defensive rotations as well as finding a knack for collecting rebounds. Sam looks ready to start at Center but the Celtics want him to learn even more and have decided to send him to the D-league. Sam seems to be that Defensive/rebounding type player.
20. Pacers via Hawks:
Justin Young

Offseason: Young entered a team full of wings that really left Young without much attention this offseason. Young learned better defensively by his lonesome as he defended nearly every SG on the team, Young lost some of his shooting touch as coaches were too not pointing out some kinks on his shooting form. Way to many wing to see any true growth maybe he can get better but without guidance it seems tough.
21. Celtics:
Eddie Griffin:

Offseason: Eddie Griffin had the privilege of learning from one of the better all-around players in the league in Bias and Paras. Griffin didn't gain anything scoring wise or on the boards but Griffin's defense sky rocketed to an above average level. Having to defend these two great really jumped Griffin defensively and has really helped him hold his own against other player in the league.
Ricky Spyr

Offseason: Rad's english barrier was a little difficult this offseason as there was no up or down in his game, could be a good player once he does understand more what the coach wants from him as well as getting teammates to trust him.
24. Raptors:
DeSagana Diop

Offseason:Rookie Diop had to compete with other young bigs which did not lead to much improvement as of now he should head to the D-League. He needs to be more adept really in everything if not he is bound to be a rotational player.
25. Cavs:
Dan Gadzuric

Offseason: Dan had to compete against Brad miller this offseason and there was no improvement what so ever but he seems like he has a neck for defense really which should land him a team for long time.
26. 76ers (via Celtics):
Marcus Taylor

Offseason: Taylor seems to had some stiff competition with Hamilton as the young Golden boy. Taylor seemed to have lost some speed this training camp but he can do little of everything he just needs to really find a niche in the league if wants to be successful in this league.
27. Nets:
Bruno Videl

Offseason: Videl is a great defender which is something he has not let go but he did seem to lose the ball too much right now but if he can improve his jump shot and continue to play serviceable defense he should be a good player to keep.
28. Mavs (via Celtics):
Roger Mason
Pre: SG 6'5'' 200 21 C B C C+ C- A
