Fake players are something new in NBADSL. But for years there has been players in the league I didn't know at all - and I'm quite a fan of NBA history. A lot of players out there actually never played in the NBA : some are current prospects who will be eligible soon, others are street players who never made it to the NBA.
Here's a top ten of these players who never played in the NBA, with their real story and what they did in this league. I skipped Bias and Papaloukas because they are way too famous. Also I did not consider Stanley Johnson for obvious reasons.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Earl Manigault (Orlando Magic)
2043 stats : 18.6ppg, 7.8apg, 1.9spg, .490 FG%
His real story : Earl "The Goat" Manigault is one of the best street basketball players of all times. He reigned in New York City ballparks in the 1960s, but never was able to play in the NCAA because of drug problems. He was famous for his dunks. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was quoted once saying "The Goat" was the greatest player he ever played against.
In NBADSL : Manigault was quite old when he got into the league and he was a great player right away. He had his best years with the Hornets : he was named to the All-League 2nd Team in 2040 and averaged 25.1ppg, 7.5apg, 2.1spg with .483 FG% in 2041. Still a very effective point guard, especially in inside/balanced focus.
Kobe Paras (Boston Celtics)
2043 stats : 18.1ppg, 7.0rpg, 4.3apg, 1.5spg, .447 FG%, .449 3P%
His real story : His name looks like a fake FBB one, but he's no fake player. Paras is currently 17 and he's the son of Filipino basketball legend Benjie Paras. He's committed to UCLA and will play in the NCAA in 2016.
In NBADSL : Paras had a nice NBADSL career as a near 20ppg scorer, and one incredible year. He averaged 19.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 4.0apg with the Grizzlies in 2037 before he went crazy the next year with the Wizards : 30.4ppg, 7.5rpg, 5.7apg, regular season MVP and playoffs MVP ! He was still great the year after (27.6ppg, All-League 2nd Team) and then went back to his former self. Strange.
Ty Hudson (Detroit Pistons)
2043 stats : 16.5ppg, 9.7apg, 2.2spg, .497 FG%
His real story : Ty Hudson is a high school player. He's committed to Clemson and will enter NCAA in a few weeks. ESPN ranks him at #25 among point guards in this class.
In NBADSL : Hudson is not one of the best players in the history of NBADSL, but he had a few fantastic years. His best season was 2039, when he averaged 26.4ppg, 10.3apg and 2.4spg with the Bucks and was named to the All-League 2nd Team. Crazy numbers, but he only shot .428 from the field. He never won a ring even though he played in very competitive teams.
Pee Wee Kirkland (Memphis Grizzlies)
2043 stats : 13.6ppg, 2.4apg, 1.7spg, .457 FG%
His real story : Kirkland was another great street basketball player from New York City. He was a phenomenal high school and NCAA players who was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1969 but turned the offer down, some say because he was making more money as a drug dealer. He became a Rucker Park legend in 1970 and 1971 before spending a lot of time in jail.
In NBADSL : Kirkland looks a lot like Manigault. He's terrific attacking the rim, can pass and defend. He was twice an All-Star with the Grizzlies, but maybe had his best year in 2042 in Indianapolis where he averaged 21.8ppg, 8.2apg and 1.6spg.
Javone Bess (Chicago Bulls)
2043 stats : 20.1ppg, 5.4apg, 1.9apg, 1.0spg, 1.0bpg, .449 FG%
His real story : Bess is currently playing in the NCAA with Michigan State. He just finished his freshman year and had obviously some issues as he played only 12 games. He averaged 2.7ppg, 2.9rpg, .478 FG%, .500 3P%. Unlikely to make it to the NBA, but he was a top prospect in high school.
In NBADSL : Bess has terrific offensive ratings (A-/A-) but he has never been one of the best scorers in the league. His best season was in 2042 with the Bulls : 22.2ppg, .468 FG%, .446 3P%. Never an All Star either, but a very great roleplayer.
TOP TEN
10. Jong-Hyun Lee (Utah Jazz)
2043 stats : 11.9ppg, 11.1rpg, 3.5bpg, .426 FG%
His real story : Lee is currently 21 and he's playing basketball with Korea University in Seoul. He was a member of the South Korea team in the 2014 World Cup in Spain, where he averaged 6.8ppg, 3.4rpg and a huge 2.6bpg in 21.6mpg. Undrafted in the 2015 NBA draft.
In NBADSL : Lee is one of the best defensive players the NBADSL has seen these last few years. He's a great rebounder (nine seasons over 10rpg) and shot blocker (eleven seasons over 3bpg) with almost no offensive move. Six times in a row in the All-Defensive Team, DPoY in 2039 and also one championship.
9. Jan Niklas Wimberg (Los Angeles Clippers)
2043 stats : 20.7ppg, 7.5rpg, 4.3apg, .413 FG%, .434 3P%
His real story : Wimberg is currently 19, he's a german young player with the EWE Baskets Oldenburg, one of the best teams in Germany. Not considered a top prospect right now but that might change before he becomes eligible to the NBA draft.
In NBADSL : Wimberg is one of the most consistent scorer of the last decade. He had ten 20ppg seasons, his best year was in 2037 with the Lakers when he averaged 26.0ppg, 6.9rpg, 3.5apg and terrific percentages (.480 FG%, .436 3P%). Four times All Star, and still one of the best shooters in the league.
8. Mahney Long (Miami Heat)
2043 stats : 20.5ppg, 5.2rpg, 4.5apg, 1.9spg, .458 FG%, .455 3P%
His real story : I don't have a clue who this guy is. When I search "Mahney Long basketball" in Google I keep finding stories about a female coach having sex with students.
In NBADSL : Long is a capable offensive player (seven 20ppg seasons in a row) who played his whole career in Miami. His best statistical year was 2039 when he averaged 25.9ppg, 6.5rpg, 3.9apg and 2.5spg, but since he has been named every year to the All-League 3rd Team. The difference with other scorers is that he's also a top defender, named three times to the All-Defensive Team.
7. Eddy Terrell (Washington Wizards)
2043 stats : 14.3ppg, 6.2rpg, 9.3apg, 2.0spg, 2.2bpg, .400 FG%
His real story : This guy does not seem to exist either. Google knows a lot of Eddy Terrell, but none of them plays basketball.
In NBADSL : Terrell has some issues right now, but he's clearly one of the best NBADSL players in the last five years. He first made a difference with his incredible shotblocking abilities for a guard, combined with his stealing, he was named six times in a row in the All-Defensive 1st Team, starting from his rookie season. Early in his career he was on the Bucks bench and won twice the 6MoY award. Then he became a starter and in two years, he was regular season MVP, playoffs MVP and All Star Game MVP ! His MVP stats : 22.3ppg, 10.7apg, 4.7rpg, 2.3spg, 1.9bpg, .467 FG%.
6. Davon Dillard (Houston Rockets)
2043 stats : 26.3ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.7spg, 1.1bpg, .478 FG%
His real story : Dillard just finished high school and he's committed to Oklahoma State. He will start playing in the NCAA in a few weeks. Not a top prospect as ESPN ranks him 21th among small forwards in his class, but his career will depend on how he plays in college.
In NBADSL : Dillard is a great scorer who had a few terrific years since he joined the Rockets. He averaged 34.5ppg, .475 FG%, 408 3P% in 2040 but was limited by injuries to 30 games. Last year he averaged 32.2ppg, .491 FG%, .406 3P%, which was the best in the league after Felton played limited minutes in the last 20 games. He was All-League 2nd Team in 2041 and 2042. Great defender named four times to the All-Defensive Team.
5. Jalek Felton (Detroit Pistons)
2043 stats : 27.4ppg, 6.2rpg, 3.3apg, 1.8spg, .439 FG%
His real story : Felton is currently a high school superstar in South Carolina. He's already committed to UNC even though he won't play in the NCAA before 2017. ESPN ranks him as the 21th best prospect in his class, and 5th among shooting guards.
In NBADSL : Felton is one of the best scorers in NBADSL history. He had a terrific four-year rush when he averaged 31.4ppg, 31.4ppg, 31.1ppg and 30.2ppg. And his FG% were astonishing : .494, .517, .479, .485. He's also a great passer with very few turnovers, and he steals a lot of balls. All-League 1st Team all four years, but he lacks a championship. Maybe he will get one in Minneapolis.
4. Zhou Qi (Cleveland Cavaliers)
2043 stats : 33.8ppg, 9.7rpg, 1.3bpg, .446 FG%, .451 3P%
His real story : Qi is currently 19, according to his draft profile. He's a Chinese young star who plays in the CBA with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, he averaged 14.1ppg, 7.0rpg and 3.3bpg last year. He played with the Chinese national team in the 2014 Asian Cup and averaged 8.8ppg, 6.1rpg and 2.4bpg in only 19.0mpg. DraftExpress ranks him at #13 in the 2016 NBA Draft.
In NBADSL : There are so many great things about Qi. He's a 7'3" power forward and has a career 3P% of .437. He had ten 20-10 seasons and averaged 27.7ppg and 11.1rpg in 2038. He has a career average of 2.2bpg and was named twice to the All-Defensive 2nd Team. He's 33 and never won a championship, but as he currently is the best scorer in the league (by far, Richmond is second with 29.5ppg) I guess he has some great years left.
3. Dragan Bender (Atlanta Hawks)
2043 stats : 20.5ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.5bpg, .403 FG% in 29.0mpg
His real story : Bender is currently only 17 ! He plays in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and he's one of the top international prospects. Last year he played with the Croatian national team in the U18 European champonship and averaged 14.4ppg, 10.4rpg, 4.9apg and 2.2bpg (3rd in both rebounds and assists, 1st in blocks). DraftExpress ranks him #5 of the 2016 draft. He will only be 18 by the draft.
In NBADSL : Bender first four years in NBADSL were average. And them, boum ! Four 20-10 seasons in the next seven years. Very capable three point shooter (career .391 3P%) and above average defender (three 2.2+bpg season). Not a lot of awards so far, but he was named to the All-League 1st Team after a great 2039 season : 24.0ppg, 10.7rpg, 3.8apg, 1.9bpg. He's having a terrific year right now, considering he was benched for the first sim and the Hawks are 21-3.
2. Benji Wilson (Seattle Supersonics)
2043 stats : 27.6ppg, 6.3rpg, 4.7apg, 1.8spg, .509 FG%, .426 3P%
His real story : Wilson was a high school phenomenon in the 1980s. He was rank the number one high school player in America in 1984, before entering his senior year. He was only 17 when he was murdered in Chicago on November 21, 1984. His friend Nick Anderson wore jersey number 25 during his whole NBA career in Wilson's honor. Derrick Rose, who graduated from the same high school two decades later, also wore 25 during his high school career. Wilson was also the subject of a Nike Ad during the 1997 playoffs and an ESPN documentary in 2012.
In NBADSL : Wilson is 27 and he might be the best player in the league right now. He spent his whole career in Seattle so far and after his fourth season became a very consistent scorer : he averaged 23.9ppg, 23.2ppg, 23.1ppg and 23.1ppg. His current season is amazing : he's 6th in scoring, but also 8th in FG%. He's a great passer and maybe the best defending small forward in the league.
1. Klym Artamonov (Atlanta Hawks)
2043 stats : 24.2ppg, 9.9apg, 3.0spg, .447 FG%, .455 3P%
His real story : Artamonov is currently 21. He's a Ukrainian prospect who plays with SK Cherkasy Monkeys. He was great with the Ukraine national team in the 2013 U20 European championship as he averaged 16.1ppg, 6.2apg, 4.6rpg and 1.2spg. But he did not really improve since. Eligible in 2015 but obviously undrafted.
In NBADSL : What's the most amazing with Artamonov is that he was a very small prospect. He was selected #26 and did not play a minute in his rookie season with the Suns. When he joined the Hawks for his third season, he became a starter and averaged 15.7ppg, 8.6apg and 2.5spg. He's been one of the best point guards in the league since, had three 22-9-2 seasons in a row and won a championship in 2041. And he was the playoffs MVP. Also, he's an elite defender. Right now he's having a terrific year : 1st in steals, 3rd in assists and he's the best scorer of the 21-3 Hawks. If they stay above .800 he's the MVP
Here's a top ten of these players who never played in the NBA, with their real story and what they did in this league. I skipped Bias and Papaloukas because they are way too famous. Also I did not consider Stanley Johnson for obvious reasons.
