Analysis: There aren't a lot of stud prospects at this position. The future at this position may end up being pretty weak, but currently, there is a lot of talent at this position. Teams that have elite SFs may have trouble getting a good return because there is such a wide array of passable talent out there.
TOP-5 SMALL FORWARDS IN NBADSL:
This list is based on the following criteria that combines several factors ranked in order of how they are weighted:
1) Current Skills
2) Current Trade Value
3) Value to their team
4) Upside
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Stanley Johnson SF 33 6'9'' 250 B+ B+ C C+ A- C
2041-42 Stats: 39.3 mpg 27.1 ppg 10.5 rpg 2.8 apg 1.9 spg 0.2 bpg 4.0 topg 45.6 FG% 79.6 FT% 32.1 3P%
Oh Stanley, such a stud. Hard to keep him off this list because his elite rebounding at the position makes any team an instant contender.
His turnovers can be a killer, but his rebounding and scoring prowess more than makes up for it.
He has been so good for so long and his age has yet to catch up with him.
One of the best players in the league, but he still gets the snub.
Shawn Marion SF 22 6'7'' 220 B C+ C- B+ B B
2041-42 Stats: 34.9 mpg 12.2 ppg 8.4 rpg 2.0 apg 1.2 spg 1.0 bpg 1.6 spg 42.8 FG% 75.4 FT% 20.0 3P%
Marion can do a little bit of everything and like Stanley, he may end up being an elite rebounder at SF. TCs will really tell the story with him when all is said and done. He may deserve a spot on this list and it was hard to deny him.
Ron Artest SG 19 6'6'' 244 B- B- C A- C A
2041-42 Stats: 32.8 mpg 9.3 ppg 5.6 rpg 2.3 apg 1.6 spg 0.6 bpg 1.1 topg 41.3 FG% 60.3 FT% 40.0 3P%
Sorry Braz, I know he was 1st overall, but he probably didn't deserve to be and I definitely wouldn't rank him above Marion, so he belongs here.
5)Javone Bess SF 26 6'7'' 230 A- A C- B C- C
2041-42 Stats: 31.7 mpg 21.7 ppg 4.5 rpg 1.4 apg 1.3 spg 0.6 bpg 1.8 topg 47.1 FG% 87.1 FT% 49.3 3P%
Man, if this dude could rebound a bit better, he'd be top-3 at the position.
A sick scorer who takes good care of the ball, is a great stats defended and shoots amazing percentages. He's still only 26!
Bess belongs on this list. He's so well-rounded and still has room for improvement.
4)Tracy McGrady SF 20 6'8'' 210 B B+ C B C+ B
2041-42 Stats: 28.2 mpg 13.2 ppg 6.0 rpg 2.1 apg 1.1 spg 0.1 bog 2.1 topg 39.4 FG% 81.2 FT% 27.7 3P%
This will be the most controversial entry because as it stands, T-Mac just isn't very good... Yet.
I'm not betting against this guy. His ratings keep improving and he can do a bit of everything. He's also only 20 and I think he still has some big upside.
If his ratings go up even a little bit, he's a B+ A- C B+ B- B type player in a season or two.
As it stands, he's currently the epitome of boom or bust.
3)Grant Hill SF 25 6'8'' 225 A- C B+ B B C
2041-42 Stats: 35.6 mpg 25.3 ppg 10.2 rpg 4.1 apg 1.7 spg 0.8 bpg 2.6 topg 45.8 FG% 81.1 FT% 35.5 3P%
Grant Hill has been drinking his Sprite, saying his prayers and eating his vitamins lately. He has improved leaps and bounds with Stanley-esque rebounding, improved scoring, great passing and improving percentages.
The reason Hill is at 3 and probably won't get any higher is because his outside shooting and handles will likely always be a liability.
Those are really the only two knocks on his otherwise versatile and exciting game.
2)Paul Pierce SF 22 6'7'' 220 B B C- B C+ B
2041-42 Stats: 31.1 mpg 20.3 ppg 5.8 rpg 2.4 apg 1.3 spg 0.3 bpg 2.1 topg 46.9 FG% 75.3 FT% 34.5 3P%
At .500, basenoc is basically throwing caution to the wind and saying "I'm not moving Paul Pierce under any circumstance" and who can blame him?
Pierce already looks like a sure fire stud.
Pierce does a lot of everything and his ratings seemingly jump every TC.
That being said, GMs need to drool over him potentially being a free agent if the Kings don't get their shit together.
1)Benji Wilson SF 26 6'8'' 202 A- B B+ A C B
2041-42 Stats: 33.9 mpg 22.5 ppg 6.3 rpg 3.5 apg 1.4 spg 0.7 bpg 2.1 topg 45.5 Fg% 68.3 FT%32.7 3P%
This one seems like a no-brainer to me. His stats may not be as nice as a Bess or Hill, but his incredible defense puts Benji at the top of the list.
At only 26, expect him to still have even more room for growth and to keep the Sonics in the mix for the foreseeable future.
Him, Kobe and Deke is a core that people must drool over.
