This article will break down the best of the best in the NBADSL at the point guard position.
There are a lot of quality point guards in the league, but which one is the best?
This list provides a breakdown including what tier each starting point guard falls into (in no particular order):
Tier 1: Sure fire studs/Superstars
Isiah Thomas PG 30 6'1'' 185 B B- A- A- D C

John Stockton PG 28 6'3'' 188 C+ A A B+ D- C
Tier 2: All-Stars/Potential Future All-Stars
Gary Payton PG 24 6'4'' 190 C+ B A A- D+ C

Jason Kidd PG 22 6'4'' 210 C C+ A- A- C A
Klym Artamonov PG 22 6'1'' 169 C+ B A A- D A
Tier 3: Solid Starters/Future Starters

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf PG 25 6'1'' 168 C+ B+ C+ B- D D
Analysis: This is a position deep with future stars who could turn into some of the best players in the league. Right now, there are very few bonafide studs at the position, but the future is very bright.
TOP-5 POINT GUARDS IN NBADSL:
This list is based on the following criteria that combines several factors ranked in order of how they are weighted:
1) Current Skills
2) Current Trade Value
3) Value to their team
4) Upside
HONORABLE MENTION: Earl Monroe PG 35 6'3'' 185 B A- C+ B- C C
2038-39 Stats: 34.0 mpg 26.0 ppg 5.4 rpg 6.8 apg 1.6 spg 0.4 bpg 1.9 topg 44.6 FG% 76.9 FT% 38.6 3P%
Sadly, Earl is on the decline. He missed nearly half of this past season with injuries, his numbers dipped and he did not win any accolades. That being said, Monroe is still an absolute stud, who in the right system could drop 30 ppg without a problem and do so with very limited turnovers and high percentages.
The Magic are in their contract year and if Monroe is healthy, he will singlehandedly make sure that Flip's job is safe if he plugs in the right depth chart to make Earl shine.
5) John Stockton PG 28 6'3'' 188 C+ A A B+ D- C
2038-39 Stats: 39.9 mpg 19.2 ppg 2.9 rpg 11.6 apg 2.3 spg 0.1 bpg 2.9 topg 44.9 FG% 80.3 FT% 38.4 3P%
This was a really tough decision because of how strong the point guard crop is and it's hard to justify the First Team All League point guard being so low on the list, but due to Stockton's underwhelming scoring and rebounding and the emphasis that FBB puts on assists, I think that this is the right call.
Stockton has helped the Blazers be a powerhouse in the West in recent years and he has been very reliable.
Stockton sort of came out of nowhere last season, piling up big-time accolades, but was unable to take the Blazers to the promised land.
4) Isiah Thomas PG 30 6'1'' 185 B B- A- A- D C
2038-39 Stats: 38.4 mpg 25.3 ppg 3.3 rpg 8.5 apg 2.6 spg 0.2 bpg 2.6 topg 44.9 FG% 80.2 FT% 28.3 3P%
Thomas turned it up a notch last season and became one of the elite point guards in the league.
While he still isn't great from long range, Thomas is the perfect point guard for an inside offense and one of the rare point guards that fits that sort of system.
Thomas went from having very little value to a lot of it and decided to jump ship to the Cavaliers, who will hopefully help him continue his career trajectory.
3) Ty Hudson PG 29 6'2'' 194 C+ B+ A B D+ C
/ Eddy Terrell PG 23 6'9'' 212 C+ A- A C+ C- A
2038-39 Stats: Ty Hudson: 39.7 mpg 22.8 ppg 4.4 rpg 9.3 apg 1.9 spg 0.2 bpg 1.5 topg 44.0 FG% 77.1 FT% 33.6 3P%
2038-39 Stats: Eddy Terrell 33.8 mpg 14.5 ppg 5.2 rpg 5.1 apg 1.5 spg 2.1 bpg 1.2 topg 43.0 FG% 84.3 FT% 41.1 3P%
I decided to have Hudson and Terrell split the three spot because they are on the same team and hold basically equal value, which is great news for the Bucks.
Hudson is a volume scorer with likely the best handles in the league. While he is nearing 30, he continues to age like a fine wine and improve each season.
Meanwhile, Terrell is only 23, shoots great percentages, blocks shots, steals, limits his turnovers - he basically does it all.
The Bucks will have to part ways with one of these gentlemen and it appears that Hudson is the likely target.
2) Gary Payton PG 24 6'4'' 190 C+ B A A- D+ C
2038-39 Stats: 38.8 mpg 17.0 ppg 4.7 rpg 9.0 apg 2.7 spg 0.1 bpg 2.1 topg 45.4 FG% 70.2 FT% 38.4 3P%
Payton was the All-League Third Team point guard, which is pretty scary considering he is only 24. He just re-signed on a long-term deal with the Nets and I'm sure that they are thrilled (although they would have used the RFA clause anyhow).
Payton is a defensive stud who has improving percentages and limits his turnovers.
He has nowhere to go but up and should be at the top of this list sometime soon. But he will have to surpass this man:
1) Pee Wee Kirkland PG 25 6'0'' 189 B+ C+ A- B+ D+ B
2038-39 Stats: 37.7 mpg 22.1 ppg 4.6 rpg 7.4 apg 2.0 spg 0.3 bpg 2.1 topg 46.2 FG% 78.5 FT% 33.5 3P%
I expect most to disagree with this pick because a) his stats are inflated and b) his stats aren't quite as good as some of the others here, but Pee Wee is still on a rookie deal (and those invested in the CBA negotiations are probably hoping that RFA is gone next season) and he also has awesome ratings.
If he continues to grow, we could easily see him become an A- B A A- C- C type player, which would easily make him the league's best point guard and those ratings aren't even a stretch.
If I were the Grizzlies, I would hang onto Pee Wee for as long as possible and try to find some studly inside-oriented players to put around him. I think that Braz will be up for the task. It's kind of sad that he moved Paras and Stanley to rebuild around Pee Wee when he may have ended up trading a dynasty in the process.
