The Legend of Tim Hardaway
Tim Hardaway is nearing the end of his rookie contract and he is looking for a pretty decent sized pay day from the team that drafted him. The Philadelphia 76ers drafted Tim with the 10th overall pick in the 2035 NBA Draft. While many speculate that is career so far has been dismal and they believe that he has the potential to be a superstar in the league, he hasn't done anything to prove that. Tim is a rare talent that only comes around once in a generation and he is hoping that he can get the starting gig for the rest of the season. He wants to leave a lasting impression on the GM and make sure that he can come back. The GM has talked about him coming back and the potential of him being a starter. While Kevin Johnson had started quite a few games this season, Tim was limited to a backup role and was to learn from him. Kevin Johnson isn't exactly the best point guard in the league, but he has had his fare share of solid seasons. Kevin isn't known for his scoring but in two out of the twelve seasons he has been playing, he has only scored more than 15 points per game just three times. His assist numbers have fluctuated at a non-normal pace. His best statistical passing season was last year when he averaged 9.3 assists per game. This season is going to see his numbers take a dip due to the fact that he is going to adjust to the back up role.
Tim Hardaway has recently talked about wanting to play a bigger role and help make a difference for this 76ers team. The team currently sits at a 19-19 record and they are just at the bottom of the playoff hunt. He knows that if he can step his game up, he can turn things around. His teammates have been very supportive of the decision of having him start and are hoping for big things from him. Of his teammates, Shaquille (better known as Shaq) O'Neal is one of the ones excited to play with the young man. Ever since they drafted him, they have heard nothing but positive things about him and how he will be a game changer. When watching the game film on him from high school and college, Shaq was actually impressed with his footwork and his knowledge of basketball. Of course Shaq was just in his second season when Tim was drafted. He knew that if he had a solid point guard on the team to get him the ball, he could become dominate. With Tim not really living up to the hype train that has surrounded him, he has a lot to prove. Tim has vowed that he will continue to work his tail off and he wants to become better and better each and every day.
GM CaptainObvious has been talking with his coaching staff and it seems they are sold on Tim as of right now. They know at the end of this year he will be up for a contract extension and want him to prove his worth. This season is a make or break season for Tim and hopefully he can be with the team long term. The success of the Philadelphia 76ers relies on having top notch players on the team. They have one of the best players in the league in Shaq and they have two great up and coming stars in Vlade Divac and LaPhonso Ellis. New had gotten out about Vlade and LaPhonse being on the block and it seems that both of them are trying to compete with each other to give the GM a reason to keep them. While they are both aware that one will stay and the other will be traded, they have tried to remain friends but the rivalry for staying with the team seems to have gotten in the way. Tim is like the glue that will hold this team together as his potential could mean big things in years to come. So when you think about if he is worth the risk or not, I am going to have to say that I believe he is worth the risk. His payday will be coming this off-season and he will be paid accordingly. He will still be out to prove himself and the GM hopes that he can further himself and become a better player.
