Yes it is early and yes someone had to do it too early so may as well be me. This article will go over each player in the top few picks of the draft and after 15 days of the season and their outlooks for the future.
1. The first pick, Benji Wilson, unfortunately can not be talked much about since he did opted to take his talents to Russia to hone his skills a little more. He wants to go there and work on his guard skills so he can come into the NBA and already be a top player. He is regarded as Magic with a jump shot which says it all for where his potential could be. He was drafted looking like this SF 6'7'' 197 18 B- C+ B- C C B but I expect him to come back as more of a SG with a better outside shot and a little work put in on the defensive end and a high chance at ROTY next season.
2. The second overall pick a lot of people could have argued to go #1. Bob McAdoo can score, defend and is athletic. Unlike most bigs his can shoot a nice jumper and has a high Ft%. At just 6 ft 9 we expect Bob to grow a little and gain some weight to be the best player he could be. He seems like a big who will take time to develop after a week into the season. He is averaging 12.2 ppg with 9.5 rebounds and a solid 1.6 blocks. The heat Gm would definitely like to see a higher scoring output from him. Maybe if he got his ft% higher then 65% that would be easier. Down the road I see Bob being an easy 22-11 guy but it really is more of a matter of when not if. Bob also did not see much change in TC which shows he could be a slow developer.
3. Latrell Sprewell comes in at pick 3. The uncle of the long time loser with some skills who super took with him to the cy grave. We all know Spree will be an extremely explosive guard. He has the potential to be an all star and even made a case for the first pick. You can tell spree has heart because since he was drafted he worked his ass off in training camp and his ratings are now +1 inside + 1 outside. A rookie Guard with a B- inside and B+ outside and a 6’5 frame should have a great career. With Spree the warriors are on fire and on a 7-1 start. Spreewell however is not playing a huge part in that start. He is plying nearly 30 minutes and shooting 60% but only getting 8.3 ppg which is saying the vets are just not letting him shine yet.
4. Now that the big three were off the board it got a little less clear to who was next but the sixers wasted no time taking the versatile PF LaPhonso Ellis. After training camp Ellis became a better defender. In my opinion if you could boos Ellis’s mid range shot he would be the perfect SF in an inside offense next to the big man SHAQ. Like Bob Mcadoo his output thusfar is good but not amazing. He is putting up 11.9 ppg and 8.8 rebounds.
5. With the 5 spot the Wolves took Oscar Schmidt, the Brazilian sensation. Soon after he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Memphis Gm stopped at nothing to get his guy, like how Chip Kelly is doing with Marcus Mariota. Oscar has the chance to go down in this league as one of the all time greatest scorers if used correctly. He is not fast or strong but he can shoot. In TC he went up inside +1, outside +1 and defense +1. He seems most ready out of a lot of these rookies and may have a shot at Rookie of the year but will probably not end up the best of the class at the end of his career. He is currently averaging 18.9 and 7.4 on the struggling grizzlies team and shooting good % from the field
6. At 6 the Blazers filled a need by taking Doug Wrenn. Doug is a hot head who can score. He could either be boom or bust and its literally either or. He currently has good scoring attributes with B- inside and B outside and he can seemingly defend some after his D went up in TC. Blazers would love to see him have a successful career. If he does him and stockton will be a great 1,2 punch for years to come. After 12 games he is scoring efficiently with 13.3 ppg
this i what came up when i googled him. literally no idea if hes even real. Figured itty would enjoy the pic
7. After all the hype of Ben Simmons and the success of his career, no one can blame the nets for taking Larry at 7. Larry is very raw but could develop into a good player long term. He had probably the best TC out of rookies. Going up in every category besides rebounding. After 11 games he got hurt, but before that he was averging 15.5 ppg and doing it well. I can see this guy being a big star if developed right, but as with a lot of these guys it can take time. As a 19 year old he has a great situation playing with his 37 year old cousin, mentor and idol in Brooklyn.
Sorry Nets i dont think there is a pic of this guy.
8. This was a Brazilian filled draft. The old dog Marcenlinho Huertas decided to make his way to the NBA after being the Brazilian national team PG and making a name for himself in Barcelona. He comes in already an elite passer who can score some. He probably wont ever be a great defender but the Nuggets, currently in CY need him to be great this year. The Nuggets need to pray his passing output out weighs his defensive liability. He after 9 games is putting up 7.8 points 8 assists and only 2.2 turn overs. Side note. RIP Moses at possibly the worst time for springs
he is screaming " I am going to be a freeagent next year after this CY WOOOOOOOOOOOO"
9. The Blazers spent their first pick on a hot head who was high risk , so it makes sense they used this next one on the most mature player in the draft. PJ Brown is a great team player and helps the players around him. He is a hard woker and a good defender and rebounder. It is hard to say how far his career will go and what it will look like at the end, So far this season he has played limited minutes but has done so rather efficiently. He took a +1 inside scoring in TC which shows hard work is paying off.
10. Jim Jackson at 10 will go down as one of the top picks of the draft. The heat gm took a guy with limited notes. He is a big strong guy with a 6’6 220 frame as a rookie. With B- inside B outside and B- D you can tell this player will one day be able to do it all. He is currently trying to earn his spot on the team putting up 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. It would be interesting to see how him Mahney Long and Mcadoo grow together. Maybe could one day be the best 234 combo in the league.
I am going to stop here because the rest of the lotto guys are not really even playing enough to be talked about. I will menton that Walt Williams does have the build to look pretty nice. With the sixers he may have a bright future.
as you can tell by the tatoo on his arm. BALL IS LIFE
