Last season finished with disappointment as Toronto was eliminated Semi conference finals in game seven. They nearly made history as they came back from a 3-0 deficit, by inched their way back into the series but could not get the job done. Every game in Toronto’s comeback, winning by leads of 2, 2, losing by 5 in game seven. Cousy put up 41 points and 14 Assists, but could not overcome the David Robinson led Bulls. As the offseason progressed, Toronto knew it would be a boring one without much flexibility, and no assets other than Pippen, Miller, and Cousy, who they felt were not getting correct value in return for their services. As Free Agency began, Toronto signed Robert Parish which excited many fans because he would strengthen their bench, until Herb White agreed to play for the Phoenix suns for three years 21M, turning down offers of 1 Year 10M, and 1 Year 7.5M to return to Toronto. The Raptors also added Truck Robinson, giving him a second chance. They previously selected him with the fourth pick, and has since been a disappointment. In College he was an elite scorer, defender, and averaged 12 Rebounds, his game just never translated. He knows this is his last shot in the league, and he’s made the most of it averaging 9.1 Points and 5.6 Rebounds off the bench.
Toronto’s start to the season was a big letdown to say the least. They began the season with an 8-6 record, and had just got news that Robert Parish would be out the next month with a hip injury. It was no secret that the Toronto Raptors had to make a move, even the commissioner Adam Silver commentated on the team saying I think you need an elite big defender/rebounder to make it out of the East. Wilt, KAJ, and David Robinson stand in your way. So Toronto made a move that wasn’t even important enough for ESPN to report as they were too busy re-playing Laker highlights, but they acquired Dave Robisch for cash considerations and 37 year old Power Forward / Center Harry Giles. Dave solidified a huge weakness, and has helped the Raptors to a 14-3 record since his acquisition. Toronto is looking their strongest in a while since his acquisition, as he battles on the glass and defensive end of the court, his impact can not go unnoticed. The Raptors are now first seed in the Eastern Conference with a 23-10 Record.
The window may be closing for Toronto, as the Hard Cap will be a difficult obstacle in their path, as it is set at 84 Million dollars, and the Raptors have three max contracts on their books. Depth has been an issue for Toronto because they just don’t have the room to fill out a bench with high caliber players, but that might not matter too much anyways as Cousy plays 39 Minutes Per Game, Miller plays 36.5 Minutes Per Game, and Pippen plays 36 Minutes Per Game. As long as this team can stay healthy, Toronto will be fine but logging all these minutes may hurt the Raptors in the long run because their starters have logged quite a bit of minutes and most of their depth is pretty aged as well. Toronto may have to look towards the draft to extend their window. A big target for the Raptors is reportedly Doug Christie because GM tyfreak in an alternate universe is a Kings fan, and adding Doug would add a tough gritty lockdown defender who can occasionally stretch the floor, and he can also do this:
Toronto may look to draft a big however, as they have no youth upfront and it's been somewhat of a weak spot for Toronto for years now. As of right now they have no one on the books upfront, so they need to either find one through a trade or groom one into a good big that can be an above average big and help on the glass and defense, as he will have to go up against the likes of Wilt, D-Rob, KAJ, Shaq, Ewing, Walton four times a season
