1. Any particular player from your team that you have your eye on the most this season?
Celtics) Jarred Vanderbilt. He really took the reigns of the franchise last season and looks to be the new face of the Celtics since DeAndre Ayton's departure in free agency.
Cavs) Mark Price. He may not be the best player on this team but he's the highest draftee that I had since Kyrie came to Cleveland. I have high hopes for the kid. Hopefully he delivers just like Kyrie delivered over a decade ago.
Grizzlies) Well I just traded for Gervin. I would love to see him be that perfect option but I still have a man crush on bird and Mj is MJ. Gervin is also uncamped which could really help me if I do it right. Biggest worry is bird holding down at PF
Sonics) Joe Caldwell, I'm the only person in this league that knows how to use him and use him right. So he will be amazing this year and gonna get that m ax deal, him and Moore gonna be the best backcourt in the league and the rest of the league will just have to deal with it.
T'Wolves) Jan Niklas Wimberg, guy had a great TC, great preseason as well as good camps. I'm giving him a trial run to see how he does as a first option, lets see if I can build around him.
Bulls) Aguirre was a stat machine on a tanking team, so I want to see how his game translates to a competing (hopefully) team. Outside of my team, I want to see how MJ does. All this hype and I don't think he's lived up to it yet. Braz has had a lot of sleepless nights over figuring out how to win with Jordan. Will this be the year?
Mavs) Finally time for Gar to solidify himself as a top 5 player I think I'm hoping 25+ ppg as a first option. His inside scoring improved during TC and I'll be able to give him +2 AC outside. The Steele-Heard combo should be good enough for a top 4 seed for the next couple of years I hope, as long as the supporting cast is decent. I’ve been really lucky with a lot of vets taking the next step on my team (Wilkens is another example)
2. How do you expect your team to do this season?
Celtics) Not sure what to expect, I knew Ayton's departure would have an adverse effect on our team but I didnt think it would be this big. But I don't mind, I've been looking to tanking for a couple seasons, since beating the CY.
Cavs) championship feeling again. It doesn't look too good early in the season tho.
Grizzlies) If I don't win the west the season is a failure. Last year I got beat by the sonics who are currently dismantled. I would love to push for a ring too.
Sonics) Gonna go for the D-League finals, dunno how we'll do, I hear the Fort Wayne Mad Ants have a player that's kind of a NBA player, but we'll be ready for him and be ready to fuck that team over. I think we have the ring on lock down.
T'Wolves) I was gonna rebuild, but I think we can get into the playoffs as a 6-8 seed.
Bulls) I expected a 50ish win season. We won 50+ games last year and I think we only got better. Nance had a really good TC and we brought in Aguirre to solidify our backcourt. We have a lot of depth and I think Drob is ready to really make a name for himself. We will see how the year plays out.
Mavs) Probably 4th seed, anything lower would be a disappointment given that the West is so weak right now. I don’t think we are good defensively, but I’m not sure how much I can do right now, with the starting 5 set. I’ll work on improving the bench. A finals appearance would be really nice… but I doubt it; probably a 2nd round exit as usual ;_;
3. Who's the team to beat this season?
Celtics) Magic obviously, lots of big moves in in the offseason, Wilt, Moses, Stanley, Allonzo, and Isaiah are one of the best starting fives in the league, if not the best.
Cavs) Magic. Idk who else can it be. Their front court, wings, guards are all scary good. You can expect top class GMing as well from shorty.
Grizzlies) I think the magic are a favorite with how deep they are. Bulls off to a hot start. My team has the biggest names and then the celtics are defending champs so all would be the team to beat.
Sonics) Hornets, because I have their pick so everyone needs to beat them for the next two seasons so I can get another loto pick to add to my collection of picks.
T'wolves) Magic.
Bulls) It has to be either the Cavs or Magic. I'm going to just say the Cavs because I'm sick of shorty having the best team. The Cavs made great moves for their team and I really don't think they gave up that much. Their future is set with Kareem and they're even making a push to contend now with Malone. They're a scary squad.
Mavs) Has to be an East team I would say. The Bulls just absolutely demolished us during Sim 1 so I will go with them. Unsurprising that they are 8-0... The top East teams (Magic, Bulls, Pacers) are all really good, from the West I like Lakers… Grizz if they can get a better DC going.
4. Any bold predictions for this season?
Celtics) Magic will not with the championship, doesn't really get any bolder than that, and I feel like anything else wouldn't be as dramatic.
Cavs) We don't make the playoffs. It is very possible with the way my team is playing right now. I'd probably quit if it happens.
Grizzlies) The heat will win less then 25 games by choice and wind up with the second pick after lotto
Sonics) MJ wins a ring this year
T'wolves) Grizzlies get Bounced in the first/second round.
Bulls) Itnas will make the finals.
Mavs) Gar Heard MVP MVP MVP & Mavs win the championship! Hmm other than that… I’ll go with Pacers in the Finals.
5. What grade would you give your off season? And why?
Celtics) C-. Not many big moves, but wasn't really looking to make splashes. Was unable to resign Ayton but with the deal he got I'm fine with it, too rich for a 34 y/o in my opinion. But not signing ay decent MLE/LLE types did hurt.
Cavs) I probably had a very good off-season. Acquiring Malone and Kareem along with Price who looks to be promising at the very least. I won't give myself a 10/10 unless my plan pans out. 7/10 for now because I might have wasted a year of tanking.
Grizzlies) My offseason was an A+++ I was able to retain bird for a really good contract for his production, bring in a bunch of talent like dakar, Harrison, Cody to sure up the bench and depth which was most likely the biggest problem last season since we had a starting 5 and a roster of rookie mins.
Sonics) A+ because they always are A+'s, I might have had like one A offseason so far as a GM for the past almost decade I have done this, but the rest were A+'s.
T'wolves) C+. Didnt really do much at all but resign thurmond and seventh.
Bulls) I'd give myself a B. I don't think we could have had an A+ offseason unless we hit the lottery with our LLE. We were just too strapped with our cap situation to make any huge moves via FA. I wanted to land a solid backup big or SG with the LLE. Bailey was literally the last person I wanted on my long list. I am really happy with acquiring Aguirre though. I think he really fits well with our team. Jr Reid was also a guy I was happy to land. He's a role player, but I think he was one of the best remaining FAs for what my team needed.
Mavs) B+, resigned Gar & Pettit which is what was most important. I lose a bit for overpaying Pettit and not signing Gar for longer… My MLE guy Nate Blackwell sucks which is disappointing, feel like I could’ve used a nice backup.
6. Which team had the best off season?
Celtics) Going out of the box and saying the Sonics. Moved all the players they wanted to, are in prime tank position, and got pretty nice hauls for all their deals.
Cavs) Magic. Shorty wasn't content with being the best regular season (East?) team last year so he decided to add Moses to the mix for a very cheap price. The results are showing to say the least.
Grizzlies) For the reasons stated above I would have to say mine. Retaining bird and getting a good MLe like dakari is huge. And to start the season I acquired herb and Gervin who should help out a ton also.
Sonics) Magic or Cavs I think, I didn't help them at all, because I don't like helping contenders get closer to winning a championship. I think it's better they earn it rather then ripping some loser off.
T'wolves) I don't think I can single out one team, most teams did decent.
Bulls) I think it has to be the Cavs. After the lotto, I doubt anyone would have predicted them having arguably the best team in the league. Price was a solid pick and then they added Kareem and Malone. I don't think they really gave up anything huge for Kareem or Malone either which plays a big part in my evaluation. I also like what the 76ers are doing. That team didn't have a great future, so ROY just traded for a ton of assets. The 76ers are in good hands.
Mavs) Obviously the Cavs. No need to rehash what’s already been said before, but they made a really good turnaround. They should be able to do better after adjustments in the season. Although to be honest I haven’t really followed all the trades in the forum this offseason...
7. Which player from your NCAA team are you most excited about?
Celtics) Lenny Cooke because he's from the NJ/NY area, and was a pretty big name for a few years before LeBron.
Cavs) Drazen Petrovic. I'm hoping he can be Tyonne Malone 2.0 or at least be a well rounded chucker. For now, he has all the tools to be a succesful player. Too bad I probably won't be able to draft him.
Grizzlies) The player I would like to see kill it the most is Oscar Schmidt. He's a Brazilian legend so naturally I'm rooting for his dominance. I don't think fbb will be able to properly translate his skill so that worries me
Sonics) Earl Manigault is a #1 lock, fuck Shaq,Webber and Morning
T'wolves) Miki Berkovich, Duh! Guys the greatest Israeli player of all time.
Bulls) Isiah Rider. I was in another sim league for like a week and Braz had Rider in it. Rider was awesome and averaged a ton of points. I want to see if he turns out similar in this league.
Mavs) Definitely Chris Webber. I expect him to be one of the best players in NCAA. He should dominate the fuck out of the competition. I have Bruce Bowen on my team as well and I am curious as to what his stats will be.
8. Do you like the famous quote from Michael Jordan when he says "there is no 'I' in team, but there is an "I' in win." or nah?
Celtics) I think it's clever and speaks towards how MJ was as a player. He knew when for the team to dish the dimes but also knew when he was supposed to take over to get a win. Classic MJ.
Cavs) Tbh, I haven't heard of that quote lol. In FBB, that quote probably holds some truth as you need to have one really good player to win it all. But at the end of the day, you have to surround that player with ofher quality guys. There's a reason some superstars don't win rings.
Grizzlies) I am not a fan. In the real nba clearly the Bulls historic runs were because they were led by the greatest player ever but in this league Jordan seems over powered but it is not directly translating into wins from what it seems. Players like Kobe wiggins and Jabari have had the same out put statistically and carried the team all the way. Well not all the way for Parker... Hoepfully Jordan do the same so this stip doesn't fuck me
Sonics) No I hate it, it's stupid, fuck MJ, go Isiah Thomas.
T'wolves) In NBADSL no, in real life yes. Kobe and Jordan are two stubborn individual who have been called selfish, yet they each have multiple rings.
Bulls) I think MJ is the greatest athlete of all time, but he's also a dick. I think that mindset worked great for him reaching his own potential. He put all the pressure on himself and wouldn't accept failure. I don't think it's accurate though. MJ wouldn't be MJ without Pippen, Grant, Kerr, Rodman, Oakley, Armstrong, Phil, yadda yadda.
