ATLANTA. The name is synonymous with many things. Racial profiling, Coca-Cola, The Walking Dead. But in this league, the city of Atlanta is known for one thing: disappointment.
The team has known many periods of triumph and growth. Triumph in the form of disposing the previous GM who ran the team into the ground, to the joys of White Jesus Nikola Mirotic, and his first disciple, brother Daniel, the Whiter.
However the one true link running through this franchise is not the racist GM and his fascination with white people; rather the mishaps, bad luck and dumb decisions that have followed the squad. Let's look at some of those now.
MIROTIC!!:
At the time, Nikola Mirotic was a solid player, but no where near the level we all remember him as. He put up solid numbers of 18/8 (which would soon explode to 30/14/3.5 levels), but at the time he was still a few TCs away from domination. ATL traded away 3 youngsters with upside in Lyles, Marcus Smart and the 4th pick, Yilden Mendoza, and well, the rest is history. Those three turned into role-players at best. Soz gmgreggor.
The Hamstring Heard Across Georgia:
Atlanta now had a Big 4 to be feared. Though Wade and Bosh were admittedly over the hill, both were still putting up 20ppg. Mirotic was a solid defensive centre. Wayne Ellington was the super sub and defensive stopper, and Von Wafer was the instant offense at the point. Al Jefferson could also be counted on to come off the bench with big numbers. Though all the momentum the team had heading into the playoffs was derailed with a Torn Hamstring to Dwyane Wade which would see him miss the entire first round. Despite losing Wade for the last 40 games of the regular season, the Hawks were still able to total a respectable 55 wins.
How the injury was believed to occur.
However the Hawks were no match for the Indiana Pacers, with Paul George taking it to them in a tough 7 game series. The Hawks were obviously crushed, as too was noted Wade fanboy, Bannak.
The White Jesus Era
Mirotic turned into a beast over the next few seasons. From a borderline all-star, Nikola transformed into a 3 (or 4?) time MVP and DPOY, wracking up insane numbers at any position he was put in. GM Bannak tried everything to keep the big man happy, he swears. Just as a gentle reminder, here are a few players that Mirotic was paired up with:
- Bargnani
- Jrue Holiday
- Rondo
- JAVALE MCGEE
- DeAndre Jordan
- Boobie "Retired at 65" Gibson
- James Harden
- John Wall (man, he shat the bed when he came to me)
- Justice Winslow
Yet at every turn, the Hawks were defeated. The old saying goes, if you love them, truly love them, you must set them free. I had to say goodbye to White Jesus, trading him to the Knicks in return for a bunch of youthful players, including the now surprising Elmore Smith and a first round pick from the Wizards. With winning seasons hovering around the mid-50s, the MiroticHawks were a fun team. GM-wise, it was like the most annoying puzzle, knowing you had an amazing piece, but trying to fit the right pieces in around it. Maybe if the Hawks were in the West away from the superteam Bucks and Bulls, they might have won a ring. -pours one out on Mirotic jersey-
THESE TWO ARE GOOD
The next season saw the Hawks turn in the super-tank. It was impressive. I'm talking industrial strength, cold war level tank. With a horrid season, Atlanta ended up with the #1 pick, and also held the #11 pick from the Wizards thanks to the Mirotic trade. Atlanta selected Dan Issel and Charlie Scott, and shit, those two exceeded expectations. The Hawks made no moves in the off-season despite the amount of cap they had, yet Issel and Scott alone took the team from 16 wins to 44 and a playoff berth. Issel turned into a scoring machine, and Scott was a defensive stopper. But as any good thing does, it comes to an end..
YOU FUCKING IDIOT
The Chicago Bulls have a way of messing with my emotions. When they dangled the 28ppg, MVP candidate V.J King in my face, I had to bite. Scott was traded, and if there is any move I've made in sim leagues that I have regretted, it is this one.
VJ King shat the bed in all manners of the word. While he stayed okay for 2 seasons, he unbelievably took a -5 in a TC (the first time I have seen this happen ever), and from there, it was all down hill. Charlie Scott is now the best defensive player in the league, and in all likelihood, was the reason the Hawks got bounced in the first round gone by.
DANIEL, THE WHITE DISCIPLE OF NIKOLA
Arise, young Issel,
As it was written, so it shall be.
A white man shall sit upon thy Atlanta throne,
With a crown, entitled MVP.
The Issel era is in full effect in Atlanta. With a deep squad, consisting of Elmore Smith, Kiki Vandenoenowndownway and Dr. J, Issel now has his best chance at a title. With more time to gel, who knows what this team could be capable of next season. Issel is coming off an MVP year, and despite all the black ass he is getting, has his focus on the chip. Though rumours are already beginning to swirl around him; will he be traded before the end of Summer?
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?
- Injuries blow
- Mirotic was good
- Issel and Scott could have been this league's Jordan and Pippen
- VJ King is a cunt
- Bannak is a closet racist
