Since I posted in the chat box that this was one of the worst draft classes ever and I am bored I figured I would go back and take a look at the draft lotto and redraft it and regrade the former picks.
Also it is toward the end of the line for alot of these guys so we can get a full look at their career.
1. Nuggets Select Deandre Ayton- Looking back at this draft you would have to draft for need between Woods and Ayton. Both developed into pretty good players who some would call a star. I think looking back I would have rather built around Ayton then Woods long term because Ayton does it all.
Original pick- Seveth Woods- Draft grade A. You can’t really say this was a bad pick in any way shape or form.
It was interesting to see woods started off with C 3pt and now has A-
2. Celtics Select Seventh Woods- The Celtics were pretty high on woods and needed that wing presence really bad. If they got woods in this situation they may have never had to hit CY because that wing was always a week spot for the team
Original pick- Deandre Ayton- Draft Grade A+ - Ayton was a great pick and has been a long time celtic who has been productive in all areas you would want from a big. It would be nice to see him retire in green.
3. Warriors Select Jalen Kenrick- This guy was one of the few other players in the draft who became a decent scoring threat. I do not think Kendrick was great by any means but when they took bagley they were looking for Kane 2.0 but did not get it.
Original Pick- Marvin Bagley- Draft grade F- This could be seen as trolling from bundy because the last player who came out with similar notes, asking for a second chance and listed as damanged goods was Kane who was a beast. But despite solid starting ratings how do you take someone with C potential at 3? I think this guy was out of the league real quick and probably never scored over 20 points. What a loser
4. Jazz select Isiah Hicks- It is already getting tough to see who to draft next. When taking Udoka I think the Jazz were expecting a dyamic 20-10 big. It turned out the guy only scored like 8 points per game for his career despite being a solid role player. Hicks turned into a guy who has been close to 18-9 for a few seasons and I do not think that was expected from anyone.
Original Pick- Udoka Azubuke- Draft Grade C+- I do not think Udoka was a horrible pick at the time but he honestly never did the jazz much good.
5. Houston Rockets select Dennis Smith JR- Yeah they will take the same guy. Smith showed stints of being good but never really developed into what you expected when reading his notes. The worst part about smith’s value was he got a max contract for little to no reason. If he was on a fair deal I think teams would have valued him.
Seems like something always held him back though....
Original Pick- Dennis Smith Jr. – Draft grade- B+ Looking back at how bad this class was this was the best pick for value and I would say over a full career he had the best one since he did average 15-20 points and 8+ assists for a few good seasons
6. Pacers select Beejay Anya- Anya did no really turn into much more than a really good role player. I would compare him to a lesser Deandre Jordan. He had his best seasons has a cog to championship runs with the magic proving his worth to the league.
Original Pick- Beejay Anya- Draft grade B+ - Like I have been saying for what was there could it really get all that much better? Anya never did a damn thing scoring wise, his best season being 12 points a game. But you can not over look career 11 reb per game and 2.6 blocks from a big with A defense
7. Raptors select Mickey Mitchell – Mitchell has been a decent player over his career and has gone relatively unnoticed until he started exploding with Golden State. He has a career high season of 22points and 7 boards which really came out of no where.
Original Pick- Nikola Milutinov – Draft Grade D- The one reason he is not getting an F for this grade is because he was probably only drafted because his name is Nikola M, I guess you cant blame the GM for going out on a limb with this one. But seriously who the fuck is this guy.
8. Detroit Pistons select- Udoka Azubuke- Its time for this life time role player to come off the board in this weak class. He has gotten paid and has been valued by several GMs so I guess this would not be a horrible pick for a redraft
Original Pick- JP Tokoto Draft Grade C+ - The actual selection based off what we had should be an A. Tokoto is a super talented player that can do a little bit of everything, has a lot of potential and should develop into a very good all round player – that’s all from notes. But sadly this guy who is actually pretty good in real life was a complete bust in the league and im pretty sure hes not even on a roster any longer. This definitely along with a few other seemingly good looking picks who busted ruined the pistons for years to come.
9. Spurs select- Przemek Karnowski- Prezmek is not in any way shape or form a star but at this point in the draft the guy may be best available. A career as a decent defender would give him some value. If he was camped properly maybe he could have averaged a solid 10 ppg.
Original Pick- Jalen Kendrick- Draft grade A + although Kendrick was shortly after traded to Memphis who passed him along to the Magic before he exploded Kendrick did eventually become pretty good and I guess that’s all you can ask for.
10. Knicks Select- Bol Bol- I guess I take Bol Bol here just because a lot of GMs valued him just for the reason that he had such good D. Not really a player to build around but alteast would have been a good trade piece.
Original Selection- Cody Riley- Draft grade C+ Riley was a solid role player at best but with what the knicks were choosing from I guess they made out alright.
I wanted to do the entire lotto but I honestly can not even say who to select past this point. This draft was so fucking awful I would have forfeited pick 15.
