With the season quickly unraveling, it is now somewhat clear who is tanking, and who is gunning for a championship. The 2031 NBAD draft looks to be a good one, without futher ado, here's our predictions on how it is gonna go down.
1) New York Knicks - Patrick Ewing C 7'0'' 240 21 B C- C- B B A - Where else is a better fit for Patrick Ewing than New York? Ewing is perhaps the most complete player available in the draft. He can score inside the paint, he can score from midrange, good defender and can be a post presence both offensively and deffensively. His quickness is low, but with the training and condition of the NBA, that can be fixed. Very good NBA-Ready prospect who still has a lot of potential.
2) Detroit Pistons - Karl Malone PF 6'9'' 254 20 B+ C- C B- B- C - The Detroit Pistons, who just last year selected 18 year old Jong-Hyun Lee have bigger holes to fill, but you just can't justify passing up Karl Malone if he is available for you. You pick BPA, and trade afterwards if necessary. Malone at just 20 years old plays like a veteran. He makes the game look easy, although he may not be the typical big you look for in FBB, you can't pass up a legitimate go to option in this league. If the Pistons resign Dr. J, they may be a team to look out for if they can also find a way to upgrade at Point.
3) Orlando Magic - Arvydas Sabonis C 7'3'' 279 24 B B- C+ B B C
- With the Magic's lack of bigs, I think the Orlando Magic will select Sabonis and wait for him to come over to the NBAD. They don't need a wing with Pressey and Stanley looking to have really impressive careers. Detlef is another option, but I think his C defense and small frame will turn Shorty off. Can do it all, score inside and out, find the open man, rebound, and block shots. May also give Shorty another opportunity at tanking to add another legit prospect to his squad.
4) San Antonio Spurs - Detlef Schrempf PF 6'9'' 214 21 B- B C- C C+ A
- Exactly what the Spurs need, another offensive first forward. There are no justifiably bigs available at the 4th position, so I think the Spurs will take a chance on Detlef and it already appears that they are attempting to move Yardley. He is a project, but a very talented one. Improving defensively and with the right camps, he has all the tools to develop into a star.
5) Minnesota Timberwolves - Chris Mullin SF 6'7'' 220 21 C+ A- C C+ C- B
- The Wolves are weak upfront, but again just not many bigs worthy of a lottery selection outside of the obvious Malone, Ewing, and Sabonis. He is a sharp shooter so should be a weapon and help space the floor for James Worthy and Ayinde, who can't hit a shot to save their lives. This leaves Seventh Woods to go for an upgrade elsewhere, as the Wolves are apparently really high on Wilkes, calling him a star.
6) Sacramento Kings - Joe Dumars PG 6'3'' 195 20 C+ C+ C+ B- C- A
- The Kings have lasted a while in this league without a Point Guard, but I think it's time the Kings attempt to change that. Dumars is a pass first Point Guard who should be a defensive presence from day one, although the Kings are actually pretty solid defensively, you can't have too many elite defenders. Upside is there offensively but will still need some work on from Base to make him worth of the sixth pick.
7) Philadelphia 76ers - Jalek Felton SG 6'5'' 197 20 B C B- C C- A
- The 76ers are kinda stuck with this pick because right now their aren't any prospects available that look to make a huge impact right away. His value is his potential at the moment, but he is also very talented as an inside scorer, doesn't turn the ball over much and can hit the occasional jumper.
8) Los Angeles Lakers via Rockets - Dragan Bender PF 6'9'' 202 17 C+ C C C+ C+ A
- The Lakers sitting atop the West don't relly have any pressing needs or need much depth as many of their players are locked up another season. He can play inside/out quick developer, and only 17 years old. Should benefit from another year or two over in Europe.
1) New York Knicks - Patrick Ewing C 7'0'' 240 21 B C- C- B B A - Where else is a better fit for Patrick Ewing than New York? Ewing is perhaps the most complete player available in the draft. 9) Charlotte Hornets - Jan Niklas Wimberg SF 6'8'' 218 19 B- B- C C C+ A
- In a recent Q&A section, Itty has said he is looking for a consistent 25 PPG scorer, and I think Wimberg has the best chance at this position of fulfilling that. Really versatile scorer and he can score in the post at times, or from midrange or from downtown. His defense is a little weak, but I think Itty will focus on developing that area of his game as his career moves forward.
10) Los Angeles Lakers - Tookie Brown PG 6'1'' 194 19 D+ B+ C C+ F+ A
- Tookie is a born scorer and should be a viable sixth man for the Lakers for years to come. He fits the mold that a lot of GMs seem to love as complimentary pieces. A PG who will hit a jump shot with a hand right in his face, and rarely turns the ball over. Don't think I even have to say it, but you know the rule. Hand downnnn man downnnnn
