Maybe just have a team option for the 5th and 6th years... with the salaries for the 5th/6th yr being based on where the player was selected in the draft... Top 5 - max 6 - 13 10,0000/11,000 14 - 20 7,500,000/8,500,000 21 - 29 5,000,000/6,000,000 I like this. I think we can modify this a bit. The 5th year should definitely stay with the team, but maybe after the 5th season they hit FA again, then the bird team can offer the extension option, or new contract but other teams can also offer a contract as well as the bird team has to give $150 to each of the top 3 offering teams (regardless who he signs with or if he resigns with bird team contract) plus an additional $300 to the team the player signs with, if he doesn't choose the bird team's offer. This way the player is still youngish after his 5th season, the team has an option to match or player resign while giving up anywhere between $450-$750. |
