This is going off preseason and the potential I think they have to win the Rookie Of The Year Award. I will try to incorporate photos if I can find out how. Sorry in advance if it comes out plain and not fancy like the others.
1. George "THE ICEMAN" Gervin
Team:OKC
Age: 22
HT: 6'7
Positon: SF
Stats: 34.1 19.4 7.0 3.4 0.8 0.4 1.4 .473 .831 .383
the No. 1 pick in the draft, should have every opportunity minutes and shots to win this award. OKC needs his scoring. A starting position and a leading role on offense, the two which are clearly the two most important for this award. He is the favorite and at the Break mark, he should be the frontrunner as well. At 22, Gervin seems more polished than anybody in his draft class. Averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds, these stats seem like the right ones to make him the most likely rookie to take home the award.
2. Walt Frazier
Team: IND
Age: 22
HT: 6'4
Position: PG
Stats: 37.9 12.2 6.1 7.2 1.8 0.1 4.1 .444 .762 .357
He could be exactly what the team that drafted him needs. He has very good for his position. With the ability to play both the PG and SG, Frazier shows that he is a very versatile player. Although at first glance, when you first take a look at his stats; They are not eye-popping. But if you take a closer look, you can see he has all the potential to be a very good player in this league. Averaging 12 Points, 6 Rebounds, 7 Assist, and 2 Steals, shows his versatility and a good all around game. If he can cut his TO in half, he will be holding this award by season end.
3. Earl Monroe
Team: LAL
Age: 21
HT: 6'3
Position: SG
Stats: 13 27.2 16.7 3.7 2.2 1.3 0.3 1.2 .463 .740 .421
It was tough choosing between Fraizer and Monroe for second and third place for this award but Frazier is a better all around player. With that said, old man WestBrook is the best scoring option and they do not have many other options, this Lakers team can use another scoring option. Monroe was the best option to pick at No. 5 in the draft for the Lakers. He might be a solution to one of the Lakers problems, which is putting points on the board. Averaging about 17 Points per, shows that Monroe has all the talent to be an elite scorer in this league. If he could bring up his assist and rebounding per game, Monroe can definitely move up the charts and maybe even pass Gervin to win this award. Only time will tell as the season progresses.
4. Trey Mourning
Team: PHL
Age: 19
HT: 6'10
Position: C
Stats: 29.9 8.1 10.5 1.9 0.6 2.8 1.6 .458 .787 .000
I like Treys upside, but he's not going to be a great contributor right away. It's going to take time for him to develop. He is only 19 and has a lot to learn. His offensive repertoire is going to need a lot of work before he can take the next leap, but a couple of areas where he will excel in his rookie season is the rebounding and defense. for the NO. six pick, I would say this is a great pick for the Sixers. Trey has all the makings to become a great player in this league but his I know he has some other awards to lock up before thinking championships
5. Bill Walton
Team: DC
Age: 20
HT: 6'11
Position: C
Stats: 23.5 9.2 7.1 2.8 0.6 0.6 1.3 .424 .804 .333
I was very surprised to see Walton at No. 4 here. Being the No. 2 pick you would expect him to put up better numbers. But Walton is very young and has a lot of room to grow in this league. Hopefully with all of the potential he has, he should become one of the best rebounders, defenders, and he could become a real inside presence in the league one day. Playing for a weak team like the Wizard, hopefully Walton can find more opportunity to score. It should be easy for him to average a double-double, but lets see if he can live up to this exception as a rookie.
6. John Drew
Team: HOU
Age: 20
HT: 6'6
Position: SF
Stats: 15 28.7 14.2 5.5 1.8 1.0 0.6 2.1 .535 .702 .385
He's an elite scorer and is explosive when attacking the rim, as his notes from pre-draft said. I believed that he showed that ability during the preseason. On a team such as the Rockets, with a couple of old guys such as Kane and Favors. He and Anthony Davis will be counted on to score. Davis is also getting pretty old as well. Because of that, John should have every opportunity to showcase his talent on the floor. Averaging 14 Points and 5 Rebounds, the Rockets will be looking for these type of stats and more as the season progresses. This can only enhances his chances of garnering some serious attention across the league for Rookie of the Year
