Eastern Conference Power Rankings: Post Preseason
I normally do the west power rankings seasons ago. However being that my team is real hit or miss and I would be incredibly bias I am just going to do the eastern conference. Some of this will be based off of how preseason turned out despite those numbers probably being inflated.
The Eastern conference has been traditionally strong this past decade. So tough that majority of the teams to get Cy’d were in the east probably based off the fact it is not even easy to get that 8 seed. There are some good GMs in the east and they always find a way to keep their teams in contention.
1. Chicago Bulls- Projected Record 61-21
The top team in the east was not easy to choose. It was between two teams but I think the best team in the east is the Chicago Bulls. One would think their team has peaked but this past training camp the players worked hard and King, Turner and Mudiay took huge steps forward. Looking at the roster they have 4 players who could be the best player on many teams. How bloop does it, I don’t know.
Key player: Emmanuel Mudiay PG B B+ A A- C- D
2. New York Knicks- Projected Record 60-22
Was a tough choice between the bulls and knicks but I think knicks finish a very close second. They lost the MVP but it seems wiggins and elfrid are going to step up into that role for the knicks. More shots to go around and now a seemingly more athletic team could be pretty dangerous. The knicks have a very good chance to repeat. But who is going to start at PF?
This could be the first team with no GM to win a ring lol
Key Player: Andrew Wiggins SG B+ A- C- A- C D
3. Boston Celtics- Projected Record 58-24
After a big TC from Ben Simmons I think the Celtics are a darkhorse for the 1 seed in the east and possibly even the title. If they could shore up the shooting guard role this would be a fearsome starting 5. This team can run a great balanced scheme and I think Embid could be the first center to win MVP in this league dominated by pointgods and Nikola.
Key Player: Joel Embiid C B+ D+ D A- A C
4. Cleveland Cavaliers- Projected Record 53-29
This is the area that the east starts to get a little less predictable. I slot the cavs here with an obvious reason of Jabari Parker racing for the scoring title, and somehow still having B potential and the under the radar TC from De’Ron Davis. With a duo like that trying to replicate Kobe and Shaq of old this team can probably do pretty well. If they could find a decent point guard to run the floor this team could probably do better than my projection, if they can’t then it may not be as happy in Cleveland as I thought.
Key Player: Jabari Parker SF B+ A- C A- C+ B
5. Miami Heat- Projected Record 51-31
This Miami team was just a contract year team and now they are looking poised to making a run. Led by superstar and top wendy’s franchise owner Junior Bridgeman this team likes to score. It seems that they are going to run a small fast pace team with a guy like Trey Lyles at PF. The signing of Elgin Baylor was huge for this team and with Westbrook looking to have one more good year in him, if this team could find a good enough center to get the job done then they could possibly finish top 4 even. They could be a championship team if they kept Okafor. Somehow that guy had a +18 ppg swing and huge TC lol.
Key Player: Junior Bridgeman SG B- A- C B- C C
6. Milwaukee Bucks -Projected Record 45-37
The fans in Milwaukee are chanting ONE MORE YEAR, ONE MORE YEAR. Although I am very confused by preseason results I think this team has a little gas left in the tank. With every player of semi relevance over 30 and the big 2 stars, Macvan 36 and Kane 34 respectively this may be the end. With out too much of a drop in TC and Macvan actually becoming a better outside shooter this team will still be a threat.
Key Player: Ben McLemore SF B- A C A- C C
7. Charlotte Hornets -Projected Record 42-40
With BIG O having a good TC and averaging a near triple double in preseason, itnas is looking smart for once with his recent moves. DR.J looks like hes ready to be in contention for the scoring title at age 24. With Malone filling out the wing with nice scoring ability this team should be a bottom seed in the east. They need some young role players to step up in the paint to give them any chance of being more then just a fringe playoff team
Key Player: Julius Erving SF B A- C+ A- C- B
8. Orlando Magic- Projected Record 41-41
The last team to get into the eastern playoffs could be any one of the next three teams listed before there is a fall off into the cold world of tanking but I think the team that gets the spot is the Magic. Having the former MVP and a nice mix of youth like Spanarkel, Yardley and David Thompson is going to form one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the league. Don’t forget the ROTY JBC. This team’s weakness will be their rebounding but if they could get their O reb up a little bit the team will be able to continuously kick out for the 3s which will be a good formula to win games.
Key Player: Nikola Mirotic PF B- A- C- A- B+ D
9. Brooklyn Nets- Projected Record 40-42
This team will be doing everything in its power to make the playoffs being that their pick is only top 5 protected. And the team before TC had no shot, but with a godsent TC for a player that was labeled overpaid in jahlil Okafor makes him now look like a superstar on the best contract in the league. This guy averaged 12 and 9 last year and had a career high of 28 points… But this preseason he is averaging fucking 28 points. That is a 16 point swing at a ripe age of 29. If Irving and Klay can keep their shooting % up this could be a team you would not want to face if you are looking for a win.
Key player: Jahlil Okafor C B+ C- C- B+ B+ C
10. Washington Wizards- Projected Record 38-44
This team looks alright, the only reason they are ahead of a few other teams is because Paul George can still ball at 36. With a 67 million off the books this coming year the only players who will remain on the team is jakeenan gant and Cornell Warner who no one really cares about. So this team will try and make its run and then be done the following year. They should try and run a small outside lineup with Gant at PF and Farid the hustle player at C. It2, lamb, Geroge, Gant, Farid.
Key Player: Paul George B A- D B- C- F
11. Detroit Pistons – Projected Record 36- 46
I feel like this pistons team is always a season or two away and never gets there. Cheeks looks good, Adams is looking like a bust, traded the only star in the team of Dakari for a few lesser players. Detroit is a team of underachieving players or busts. Sorry for all the hate but this team will be stuck in mediocrity for a while with the current roster. They should get worse to get better.
Key Player: Alvan Adams SF B B C C+ C+ B
12. Philadelphia 76ers – Projected Record 35-47
With their best player, Arizin already having a negative TC and the GM investing all his love and emotion into a point guard with C handles who last season averaged 5.8 assists with 2.8 turnovers its not looking good in philly. For being pick 11 of the second round Tarlac is pretty good but I do not think he is by any means the savior of this team. Lanier looks pretty solid but all in all this team is a few seasons away and will probably get CY’d if they don’t get a big FA or Jordan in the draft
Key Player: Nicholas Tarlac PG C+ B C A- D+ C
13. Atlanta Hawks- Projected Record 32- 50
This team seems like it will be in tank mode for another year. But last years #1 pick Dan Issel may be a force stopping that tank if he can. As a rook in preseason hes putting up 26 and 9 as a forward shooting a decent % from deep. Dawkins seems like he will never pan out as a scorer and the rest of the team sucks but he is not the worst team in the east.
Key Player: Dan Issel PF B+ B- C B- B- A
14. Toronto Raptors- Projected Record 25- 57
This team was left in complete destruction from the past gm. A few bad contracts were claimed by Cy which gave the team room to work with, and reason to tank with purpose. I do not think 1 player on this current team is good outside of Mike Gale who looks like he could be decent. The raptors will be fine though after a couple of drafts and a good FA because their GM is pretty aggressive and a known winner.
Key Player: Mike Gale SG C B+ B+ B D B
15. Indiana Pacers: Projected Record 20-62
This team has literally no direction. They had a decent scorer let him walk in FA, an 0-11 preseason, a point guard who doesn’t like to score, a ghost GM and Bob Pettit who is starting to look like he was the wrong pick. This team signed Boogie to a 1 year deal to let the man get some garbage points and maybe mentor Pettit while putting up decent number but he will be no kind of savior in Indiana.
Key Player: Bob Pettit PF B+ C- C- B- B+ B
