Here are the of the midseason questions asked to 5 GM's by tyfreak We asked the two Finalist daedalus, SuperMaor23, as well as 3 lucky GM's in bloop, ballislife and itnas123. SO really the east + Wolves. So let us begin.
1) We'll start with a regular on the roundtable. Did the best team in the league win the championship last season?
Heat- I don’t think they were exactly the best team (very subjective), but definitely one of the better ones. Super has a hard on for Rose and he should be with the performance he had. The dude is just too good and a triple double machine as well. D-Rose and Howard may have been the best duo in the league however and that definitely is enough to be considered one of the best. Either way, deserving win for one of the top teams.
Wolves: Yes, we were the best team in the league. We were plauged by injuries, but we have the best player in the league in Derrick Rose, and that bitch Dwight Howard. I finally figured out the right DC around the last sim and rode it out to the playoffs. The playoffs were a cakewalk this year for some reason. I didn't have Home Court in one series yet I was able to beat the Clippers in 6, Mavericks in 4, and Lakers in 5. Then I went on to defeat the Horne..I mean Bucks in 6.
Hornets: I believe they did although both finalist deserved to win. The Hornets errr..... I mean the Bucks had Macvan, Thomas, and Deron Williams and then add in Kane they seemed unstoppable but the Wolves have a great pair in Rose and Dwight that looked to have multiple years to get the Title until Dwight Howard ditched the team. All in all the Wolves created a duo and multiple players that file specific roles on the team that made them the team to win it all.
Bulls- I don't think so, but it doesn't mean that the Twolves didn't deserve it. I thought the playoff teams were pretty even last year. The one team that I thought was slightly better was the Lakers, though. I thought they were due for a title, but they couldn't overcome the poorly timed Biedrins injury. Congrats to the Twolves, though. Dwight and Rose are a pretty nasty 1 2 punch.
Bucks: Mixed on this one. I think the Lakers suffered from a major injury and going into the playoffs I would have pegged them as the most talented team in the league. It's a small difference though between the top 3 or 4 teams in the league so not too many complaints can be had with the end result I believe.
2) Who do you think will make the jump from lotto to contender? Who will make the fall from contender to lotto?
Heat- This could very well surprise everybody, but I feel like the Celtics could be a contender. They have viable starters at all positions, there young and seem to have a competent GM for once. CP3-Thompson-Pope-Randle-Towns is a scary team on paper with young role players that can be starters as well. The fallout team will be the Timberbros just because they had a huge loss in Dwight. Also, it seems that most championship teams fall off the next season, so I can see them dropping off.
Wolves: Not necessarily contender, but the Celtics just got Cp3 for free. Any team with CP will go to the playoffs just off that alone. Heat are a good candidate but they overpaid for Lamb. All in all the league should look the same.
Hornets: Me..... yeah probably not since I am in the East. LOL. I might be able to make a 9th or 10th seed at the max. Now regarding the question I think the Rockets might have a chance to slide into the 7th-8th seed out west. They have Koufos ,Griffin, Smith,Bradley,Jones and some decent bench. They should do well out West. Maybe even the Jazz can make it too.... Decent starting 5: Udoka Azubuike, Yilden Mendoza ,Trey Lyles ,Shabazz Muhammad ,Marcus Smart but they need more depth. In the East I think Celtics have made a strong case after acquiring CP3 from waivers. Not really many I view as going from Lotto to contender though. The team that I think will most definitely drop will be the Wolves but not at a degree that they will not be out of the playoffs. No body can deny that losing a player of Dwight's caliber will do nothing to your team. Sadly the Wolves will fall, and all because of Dwight Coward.
Bulls-I say it every year, so maybe it'll finally come true. I think the Heat can go from lotto to contender. I like the addition of Lamb. On paper they have an awesome starting 5. Barring any injuries, I see them becoming a contender. The one team I see falling off is the Twolves. The loss of Dwight is just going to be too much to overcome in my opinion. Rose is still awesome, but Dwight is one of the most underrated players in this league. His defense may not always show up in the box scores, but it surely makes a huge impact.
Bucks: Without a doubt Celtics. They had a talented young core that will explode in all likelihood with TC and also added Chris Paul to guide the offense. In the reverse I'll simply highlight a team from each conference that I feel is "in danger" of slipping. In the West I'd say the Kings as lacking good-to-great PG can be lethal in FBB. In the East I'd worry if I were Atlantic Division rivals of the Celtics. One of the 76ers/Nets is probably going to make the hard flip from playoffs to lotto. The East is shaping up to be a dog-fight.
3) What is your teams outlook?
Heat- I like my team. Wroten-Lamb-Stephenson-Davis-Okafor is a young but experienced squad. If they can play together, there is nothing but improvement in South Beach. We also got some key role players in Saric and Kanter, who both have the ability to start if needed to. If we can add more depth, I think we can be a contender this year.
Wolves: Right now I need to find a decent replacement for Dwight, doesnt have to be an inside scorer just a good big defender. I still think I can contend with Rose getting better this TC. Im also gonna try to focus on the infamous "chuck" offense, which brought a championship to somerandomguy and to entrapy. All in all, I'm a very hard headed GM, those who know me know that I always, always want to compete and will probably never tank.
Hornets: As of right now it looks like my team could either fight for a playoff spot or suck terribly. The season all depends or the DC really because we have a lot of good players who will do well. We got a decent PG in Zach LaVine, a good Versatile SG in Ellington, a good SF in Leonard, and excellent athletic PF in Walker and a brick wall at Center with Thomas . LaVine as of right now is a good Shooter and Finisher and is a good passer as well, he does need to improve defensively if we want to compete against other PG right now. Ellington did go down shooting wise and going inside but as a #2 option we should be running him off of screens and he will become lethal plus he is still an excellent defender. Leonard is our wing defender who can do a little bit of everything score, board, and pass well. Walker we hope to get his points as the 3rd option. Walker should get most of his points of in the fast break, and Pick 'n' rolls, he should also get a lot of boards as well, I hope in the double digits. Then comes my big Thomas who really all that he needs to do is board and block some shots which he should be able to do for this team. My bench is also decent, Gant the glue man down low, Giannis our big man passer, Bol Bol's A+ defense, and our scorer off the bench Ross. Really excepting a lotto team at the 9th seed but winning 45 games at least.
Bulls- I'm excited for this season. We had a good TC and Newman looks like he is going to take that next step. I expect us to compete and make it further than the first round this year. Another first round exit would be a huge disappointment and ultimately a failure of a season.
Bucks: Very positive. While I think the team will be slightly weaker at Center with McGee leaving, the depth that I now have should keep the second unit playing at a much higher level. With Kane and company growing in TC I think we can compete and make a hard push among the conference elite. As always with FBB you must remain healthy.
4) Who had the best offseason? The worst?
Heat- I think the Hornets had a good offseason. They made key additions, so they have decent depth. Nobody exactly scares you, but getting Ellington and Leonard on bargain deals is awesome. That’s what free agency is about, underpaying for quality players.
Wolves: The fucking suns got Dwight on a cheap contract, they got the best Center in the league for nothing. I also think the Nuggest made a smart choice in drafting Seventh Woods, and nothing against springs but I think he will be a bust just because springs wont be patient with him, he wont camp him right and he'll end up trading him for a decent role player, *inner thought* shit, maybe I should offer Shumpert for him *inner thought over* The worst offseason had to come from me, I lost Dwight Howard for nothing. I knew I should have offered him more but I didn't wanna pay him 30 Mil a year, I thought hed take my offer of 5 years/130 Mil. That pays him more than he took from crazyguy, 91 Loyalty my ass. I hope he breaks his knee.
Hornets: The obvious one is the Suns who nabbed the best Center in the league as well as the most indecisive player in the league. Dwight is going to play for his 4th team in the past 14 season. It was the Bulls, Cavs, Mavs, Wolves, and finally the Suns. With Dwight the Suns become a strong threat out West. Another with sneaky pick-ups would be the Raptors. The worst goes to the Cavs, Wolves and the Thunder. The Cavs we unable to resign Klay Thompson, and bid heavily for Hawes. The Wolves without Dwight Howard really is not their fault but nearly Dwight being Dwight. The Thunders lack of activity in the offseason has left Durant in a pit full of money with no aspirations of becoming a contender as long as he has no one to surround him. No Bynum yeeesh.
Bulls- I love what the Celtics did. They resigned their young core and were aggressive with signing Klay and claiming CP3. I think they can go from a lotto team to a playoff team this year. I like the aggressive rebuild. The raptors and lakers had a lot of quality signings too (as always). The worst offseason occurred in either Cleveland or Minnesota. Cleveland lost Klay and bid against themselves for Hawes. Minnesota lost the premier big man in the league and must now rely on Diamond Stone to replace him.
Bucks: Hard to argue with the Celtics. They acquired the best player in the draft, in my honest opinion, while adding CP3 and retaining their young core. For good measure they added an excellent shooter to help stabilize their scoring touch in Klay Thompson. Worst? Any of the teams that avoided FA. I'll single out the Thunder as they are thoroughly wasting a prime KD.
5) Pick the ECF/WCF participants for this coming season, then the Finalists... and the overall champion.
Heat- ECF will consist of Raptors/Bulls. I think these are the two best teams in the conference, or at least consistent enough to make it far. Raptors had a good free agency as well. WCF will consist of the Lakers/Bucks.The Bucks are getting old, but they have a competent GM who can easily make enough moves for them to make it back to the promise land, or at least a chance. The Finals will be Raptors/Lakers, with the Lakers coming out on top. This team, if healthy, can be a force. Getbeard has created a mega team around Wiggins, so it’s their year to lose.
Wolves: East: Raptors over Bucks
West: Wolves over Clippers
Finals: Wolves over Raptors
Hornets: ECF: Bucks vs.Pacers. WCF: Grizzlies vs. Lakers. Finals: Bucks vs. Lakers. Bucks win with my big 2 + Kane.
Bulls- ECF: Bucks vs. Bulls. WCF: Grizzlies vs. Lakers. Finals: Bucks vs. Lakers. Lakers win finally.
Bucks: Really. REALLY tough calls in the East. I'll go with...
Bucks vs Bulls -> Bucks
Lakers vs Grizzlies -> Lakers
NBA Champion: Lakers
6) Who do you expect to break out this season?
Heat-- I’d love to see a former #2 pick, Jahlil Okafor, finally break out, and I expect it to happen. He is not playing behind Curry anymore and has been given the green light for him to go. Baby Shaq will be unleashed. Fear the OKAFOR.
Wolves: Look for Rose to become god like this year, I think hes going to break the scoring record. Perry Jones is going to have a solid year. But if I had to pick someone who isn't on my team I'd select Tyus Jones. FBB is a point guard run league and Tyus will have free reign in Houston.
Hornets: Not Rodney Miller.... but Seriously though I think Payton is going to have a break out year if used in an outside or balanced system. I think pencil him at 16 point and 9 assists if he starts over Rondo. I also think that Summers will catch a second wind after 7 seasons not averaging more than 10 PPG. If used to his strengths he should be headed for a close to 20 PPG. Though the won to most definitely have their breakout season should be Tyus Jones who should be the starter for the Rockets. He should be a 20 PPG and 8APG player minimum.
Bulls- Biased here but I'm going to say Newman. He's been consistent his first two years in the league, but I think he's ready to become a true scoring threat and average 20+ ppg.
Bucks: In the league? Tyus Jones. It's FBB so this realisticly has to be a PG. On a non-PG note I would say Anthony Davis. The Heat are built around him and he now has shooters surrounding him which should lead to some easy opportunities.
7) Off-topic: With the regular season for the NFL quickly approaching... Predict the Super Bowl and champion.
Heat-- The Superbowl will be the Seahawks and Broncos, again. Seahawks are still the best team in the NFL by far. They lost some key players, but I think nobody can stop them (well, really only the 9ers but I don’t think they have what it takes. And it’s the Broncos last chance. Thomas and Thomas paired with Manning is just a sick combo and Peyton is on their last leg. I think the Broncos will win since the NFL is obviously fixed. Manning brings them money. Conspiracy or nawwwww
Wolves: Easy, Rematch of SuperBowl XLVII, with the Niners beating the Ravens.
Hornets: Don't watch a lot of football so lets talk about who will win the NBA Final and the winner. Spurs Vs Raptors (WTF) yeah I know.....weird but same team coming back essentially who were a 3rd seed last season behind the Heat(No LeBron) and the Pacers(No George) the Cavs will be up there but I do not know how that will play out but if they are really coherent then they could be in the Finals over the Raptors. The Spurs are the Spurs so that is the only reason I have.
NFL: ummmm the Seahawks win vs Patriots. IDK
Bulls: With the regular season for the NFL quickly approaching... Predict the Super Bowl and champion.
49ers fan here. Hurts to say this, but I think the Seahawks make it to the Super Bowl again. Seahawks vs. Pats with the Pats winning.
Bucks: Seahawks vs Broncos (yep again!). Seahawks salary cap management is impeccable. When you have multiple stars and your QB making pennies in comparison to the rest of the league it is a lot easier to field an amazing team. Until they have to pay the piper they will be the NFL's best team or very nearby. Broncos got better and still have the best QB in the league. With the NFL re-emphasizing defensive holding and illegal contact passing offenses should explode.
31-21 Broncos winning the SB.
1) We'll start with a regular on the roundtable. Did the best team in the league win the championship last season?

We are all winners even in the eyes of the Hornets GM?
