A little late but it should be interesting to see what we all answered. So......
Here were some of the midseason questions asked to 5 lucky GM's by thecommish. Let's take a look on how spot on some answers were or how wrong we all were.
1. At this point in the year, who is the most feared team for your franchise to be facing in a series?
Bulls: bloop
1. Any team that is currently in the playoff hunt right now. Our team is middle of the road and just can't seem to tank or rise. The past 4-1 sim was surprising to say the least since we just moved fan favorite DeSean Butler. We beat the teams we are supposed to beat, but can't seem to win those 50/50 games or games where we are considered underdogs. The scariest team in the league, imo, is the Heat, so if I had to pick one team to not play in a 7 game series it's them.
Heat: ballislife
I would have to say getbeard and his Lakers. There just dominating the West right now, so I'm happy we don't face them much. I think we do match up well, however, and I think I could make some key adjustments to make it a good series. As of now, I'm predicting them to go to the finals, and if I make it, it will be a great matchup. Wiggins will dominate, Anthony Davis/Eddy Curry will dominate. Post vs. perimeter.
Grizzlies: BrazilianDude
Who is the most feared team for Memphis? Hmmm I see my team as one of the best in the league but in the last sim the thunder scraped us twice. The lakers have the best record but we are 2-0 vs them so I would have to go with the thunder. kd can turn it on at any moment and won't be easy to slow down. I think we match up well though Aldridge and bosh cancel themselves out and maybe Bynum has a little on Drummond. kd can be slowed down by mkg but not stopped. But I hope I win by asking who stops Westbrook?
Magic: shorty
One of the most troublesome matchups for us would be facing off against the Heat. They have the bigs to punish us inside, and we would have to rely on our perimeter play. So far this season, we haven't shown the ability to stop them, and our perimeter players have not stepped up against their interior onslaught.
Hornets: itnas123
My team has struggled mightily against the 76ers who have had my # all of this and last season. Curry's Improved defense makes Thomas ineffective assist wise and makes my offense very terrible. Brooks is too skilled and big for 6'8" Center Kenneth Faried who seems to foul out every other game when we face them. The inside and outside threats have been too much for me. Lamb seems to struggle as well. 76ers will definitely give my team nightmares.
2. If the season ended today, who is your MVP? Is the MVP the best player in the league this year?
Bulls: bloop
Anthony Davis would have to be my MVP. His game has just gone to another level and the team depends strongly on how he plays. When he's popping up in the box score, I fully expect the Heat to win (which they usually do). When he's not a scoring or rebounding leader, the Heat aren't as effective. The Heat go according to AD. I don't, however, think AD is the best player this year. I think Lebron is still the best and his stats are showing that.
Heat: ballislife
Well, my obvious bias will be Anthony Davis. The dude can flat out ball. He essentially is Dwight Howard but with half the contract. However, more than likely we will see a PG hoisting up that trophy, yet again -_-. That point guard will be John Wall. This guy is an all around freak, avg 25/6/9. Pretty incredible to say the least. With or without GM activity, Wall seems to be on the pace to win back to back MVP's.
Grizzlies: BrazilianDude
My MVP is probably my coach each player on my team is doing their part. Russ isn't dojng what he's done in the past but that may be because of exum and what he is doing at such a young age. The mvp of the league would be wiggins. He is the best player on the best team and doing it all in his second year.
Magic: shorty
The MVP will either be Kyrie Irving or John Wall. They already own half the POTW awards, and that isn't likely to change. FBB loves PGs, and so far the awards are backing up that fact.
Hornets: itnas123
For me I would have to say my MVP for wins and stats would be Anthony Davis who is by far the best player and most valuable both sides of the ball. He is logging 26.9 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 2 APG, 1.7 SPG, and 3.4 BPG. Very Huge #'s across the board for a PF. He is also doing this on a great Heat Team that is closing the gap to the #1 seed by just one game.
3. What's your take on the upcoming draft - opportunity to get some sneaky steals, or too unknown to even take a GAMBLE?
Bulls: bloop
The deeper we get, the more I rely on Bundy's notes. I have very little about these prospects and will be forced to google their names last second and hope Bundy's notes are straightforward and not vague. With my luck so far with Newmann and Turner, I am open to rolling the dice in these drafts, though. It makes it a lot more interesting when we can't rely on someone's name irl to draft.
Heat: ballislife
I think we will have to rely on President Bundy and his deceiving notes a lot more. As the years go on, we know less and less of these players, so scouting and notes will be huge (it may even SLOW the draft down even more than usual). There are certain key words, however, I picked up that the Pres uses, and usually those players are sure top prospects.
Grizzlies: BrazilianDude
I don't know a damn thing about this draft. I'm hoping someone falls down to me where I pick. Getting a nice steal in the 20s would be a good addition to my already young team.
Magic: shorty
We don't have our first pick.. but with that said, I'll keep an eye out and if we can buy our way back in, that would be something to explore. Due to unknown factor, there is a likelihood of someone decent sliding.
Hornets: itnas123
Well since my team is well into the playoffs I am not too concerned into the draft. Since I am at this position I can certainly Gamble for those hidden players with sky high potential. I have certainly succeeded in doing so in the past with my draft picks prior to this one. It would be really interesting to see how picks will pan out due to a bigger chance for a hit or a miss after the ones we already know are capable of BECOMING good players like Maker, Simmons, Davis, and Malone.
4. Has the East-West power struggle been restored to even ground?
Bulls: bloop
It's more even than it has been in the past, but I still give the edge to the East. I consider the Heat the best team and they're not even in 1st in their own division. The West is getting there, but I am not ready to call it even just yet.
Heat: ballislife
The East sucks. Period. The West has its power, but declines dramatically. This power struggle sort of makes it more even than usual, but there are still many differences to really say its on even ground. For example, the Lakers haven't lost double digit games yet, but the East is well up there in L's, but theres still a team in the West who hasn't even won double digit games yet. It's ultimately subjective, but I don't think theres balance in the conferences just yet.
Grizzlies: BrazilianDude
I'm not sure that power struggle exists each season more teams come out of no where with crappy rosters and good teams under perform. It seems like the east is a little weak since the bulls are in rebuild and they have been constant but now the heat has EMERGED. Last year Memphis was rebuilding but now they are back full force while you see the spurs starting to decline. I do think they are both balanced an hope to see this keep up for future.
Magic: shorty
The East has dominated the championships in this league, and unless the West wins the next 3 titles, East will be the better conference. So far this season, the East has shown to be the tougher conference to compete in as well. The teams are more or less on an even playing field right now, but if you want to go on history, it's clearly the East that's the tougher conference.
Hornets: itnas123
Championships power stuggle goes to the East purely, and in regular season play it is the West that is the stronger conference. With that being said it is hard to gauge which way the power struggle is at to assess if it is at even ground but by stats and record it seems to be closer than before.
5. Last question - If you could keep going forward as-is, but reset the league entirely in terms of rosters/teams, would you be down to clown?
Bulls: bloop
Yeah for sure. This league is full of active owners and the commissioners are awesome. I actually tried to join a 2nd league recently because a few of my other friends wanted to see what a sim league was, and holy shit did it suck. The implosion of that league made me appreciate this league that much more.
Heat: ballislife
Yeah I'd be down because I like the consistency of this league. I've been in other leagues where it would just randomly collapse and you waste your time, but this league seems to be holding very strong. We can thank the Pres for that. NBAD>real life.
Grizzlies: BrazilianDude
I see myself sticking with this league no matter what if we change draft classes or just start a new. I like the people in the league the activity and the little things that get done that make it better then other sim leagues.
Magic: shorty
I'll take a roster class with Tmac as a rookie . I suppose it would be fun to start in the 90s just to mix it up. To keep it interesting, it's better to use players that people have heard of, and people would more or less be familiar with players from the 90s.
Hornets: itnas123
Yes I'd most definitely still be in this league because I like the consistency of this league, the realism (no inflated states). I've been in other leagues where it would just be really bad in attributes. Many players had straight A's but this league seems to be holding this down to a realistic standard and has built a very strong league and different peoples together. I would love to restart at the 78 draft ahead of the Bird/ Magic draft but that might be way to back for peoples liking.
