Jordan and Pippen, Shaq and Kobe, Stockton and Malone. These are all historic 1-2 punches in the NBA. Many teams have historically found out that a team built around a 1-2 Punch can very well win the NBA title. In this league we have seen that as well, with the most recent star 1-2 punch winning in 2012 with Derrick Rose and Elton Brand. Lets take a look at the best 1-2 Punches in the league.
These guys are good, very good. But were not good enough to crack the top 5.
Damien Lillard and Andrew Wiggins, Danilo Gallinari and Amare Stoudemire, Kyrie Irving and Andrea Bargnani, LeBron James and Blake Griffin, Jeremy Lamb and Milan Macvan
Without further adieu, lets get to our top 5 Deadly Duos in the league!
5) Kevin Durant and Chris Bosh
Team: Oklahoma City Thunder
Combined Stats: 50.0 PPG 18.9 RPG 5.2 APG 1.7 SPG 2.3 BPG
Historical Comparison: George Gervin and Larry Kenon
These two have been going strong since Durant came into the league, they are both tall, long and have a great offensive game, but both are sub-par on the defensive end. However, these two alone will be able to help you make the playoffs, which is why they come in at number 5.
4) Russell Westbrook and LaMarcus Aldridge
Team: Memphis Grizzlies
Combined Stats: 46.4 PPG 14.3 RPG 8.1 APG 2.7 SPG 1.9 BPG
Historical Comparison: John Stockton and Karl Malone
These two are new too each other but they have been playing like they were meant for each other. They have the Grizzlies contending for the top spot in the west and together they are an offensive/defensive machine. They both thrive off athleticism and soft touch. Together they are amazing. They come in at 4.
3) Chris Paul and Kevin Love
Team: Los Angeles Clippers
Combined Stats: 42 PPG 15.7 RPG 13.9 APG 3.7 SPG 1.9 BPG
Historical Comparison: Kevin Johnson and Charles Barkley
Arguably the best offensive tandem in the league, these two both love to run and can shoot from the outside. Paul loves to get his teammates involved and Love loves to play in the spotlight, from outlet passes to pick and rolls, these two are going to be a force in the league for years to come, which is why I put them at number 3.
2) Paul George and Harrison Barnes
Team: Indiand Pacers
Combined Stats: 48.9 PPG 12.9 RPG 5.2 APG 3.5 SPG 1.5 BPG
Historical Comparison: Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen
If I wrote down these stats on a piece of paper and told you that these were the combined stats of two teammates who happened to be a Shooting Guard and Small Forward what would you say? Jordan and Pippen, arguably the greatest duo in NBA history which lead to 6 Bulls championships. Did shard24 have a crystal ball or something? Because he obviously saw something we didn’t when he paired these two together. They have the Paces thriving and are a game back of the number 1 spot in the East. The scariest part, Harrison Barnes is only 23 years old. I’m predicting it now, before these two are separated they will win a championship together, if not two, or three….
1) Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard
Team: Minnesota Timberwolves
Combined Stats: 49.3 PPG 19.5 RPG 9.2 APG 2.4 SPG 4.0 BPG
Historical Comparison: Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal
I know what you’re thinking, “Obviously he’d say they are the best, they’re on his team.” Bias aside, take a good long look at this pairing. Top 5 players in the league? Check. Arguably the best player at their respective position? Check. In their prime? Check. Franchise players? Check. Can you blame me? These two are by far the best duo in the league and Its not even close. Separately they can carry a team alone, but together? They can wreck havoc. They are still learning how to play with each other and I am still experimenting with my DC, but being only 28 and 30 years old, their championship window is WIDE OPEN for another 4-6 Seasons together. Once the DC is figured out, watch out, because just like Shaq and Kobe before them, they are coming for a 3 peat.
