2015 NBAD PLAYOFFS
At last, we finally made it to the 2015 Playoffs. After a tight stretch, the best 16 teams made it to the big dance. However, which teams are slated to dominate? Which teams are underdogs and have the ability to create an upset? We’ll explore these options below:
1v8
Spurs (56-26) vs Thunder (40-42) For the second year in a row, we see the Spurs on top of the Western Conference. They seem to be clicking on all cylinders, as there scoring 110ppg and the Big 3 in Melo, Aldridge and Parker all averaging 20+ppg. Then you have the Thunder, who got a new GM midseason, however, there team has remained the same. Can the trio of Bynum, Bosh and Durant be enough to upset the high paced Spurs? I’m not so sure. I predict the Spurs to win in 5.
Bulls(52-30) vs Cavaliers (45-37) The reigning champs, the Chicago Bulls, have a matchup nightmare here. The Cavs have always frustrated GM Bloop. The Cavs come in with the season MVP in Kyrie Irving, but is it enough to stop LeBron from getting back-to-back rings? This series I believe will be decided in 6, as the Cavs will win some close games, but the reigning Champs will just be too much for the young Cavs.
2v7
Blazers (55-27) vs Rockets (40-42) The Blazers have had an amazing season and there play should match up well with the Rockets. Bargnani has been a stud, coming in with 27ppg and the 2nd round wonder in Wayne Ellington playing lights out. On the other hand, the pesky Rockets have an intriguing trio of Wall, Caldwell-Pope and Chandler. If GM Flip can set his DC in a way that he can win matchups, I can see a 7 game upset brewing here. If not, the Blazers will sneak by in 6. Expecting a good series overall.
76ers(46-36) vs Heat (46-36) Now, here is where the bias comes alive. Your Miami Heat has had a roller coaster season. At one point, they were 20-25, but ended up winning 26 games while only losing 11 to sneak into the playoffs. With the squad of Harden, Davis and Curry, there is a possibility of an upset going against the deathly duo of Lopez and Curry. The 76ers hold the season series 3-1, however, with how hot the Heat has been, and the new addition of Jahlil Okafor, we may see an upset. This series will be neck and neck, but I will ride with the Heat since they been so hot as of late.
3v6
Suns (52-30) vs Lakers (47-35) I feel like even though the Suns are 52-30, there GM, crazyguy, seems to fly under the radar and has made a very solid team. Amare and Galo are not to be messed with. This squad is a defensive nightmare, holding opponents to a low 93ppg. Then we have the Lakers, who have the high throttle youngins in Wiggins and Lillard. They also have two solid players in Butler and Biedrins. As such, I think this will be an upset, as Wiggins and Lillard will prove to be too much for the Suns. This series will end in 6.
Hornets (50-32) vs Hawks (46-36) Ahh, we have an intriguing matchup here. The battle of the Commishes, the battle of friends. SRG vs itnas123. Who will come up on top? Starting with the Hornets, they have been hot all year, but seemed to cool down as of late. Macvan, Thomas and Lamb are a young tandem that we could see wreck havoc for years to come in Charlotte. On the other hand, we have the pesky Hawks and the ageless wonder in Caron Butler. At 35, he has yet to fall off and will play hard to get his 2nd ring. Beal and Humphries match up well versus the Hornets. Who will win this matchup? I’m going to say the Hornets in 7 just because there seems to be more consistency in scoring offense and defense. Will be a great matchup nonetheless.
4v5
Mavericks(50-32) vs Jazz (50-32) This matchup is interesting because the Mavs GM, swish, will be on vacation and the Jazz had aspirations of tanking (went well, right?) Replacing swish will be the league commish, bundybastard. Does he have what it takes to create a strategy to defeat the Jazz? Will he use Howard, Buddinger and Granger to bring the ship to Marky Mark Cuban? On the other side we have the Jazz, coming in with Mirotic, Muhammed and Lowry. This combination is interesting because the all average around 18+ppg. They only give up 95ppg as well. Will the fix be on? Will this series be a sweep? Bring out the brooms perhaps? This series will end in 6, in favor of the Mavs.
Raptors(48-34) vs Pacers (47-35) Lastly, we see the familiar GM, tyfreak in the playoffs once again. Having Roy alone, teams should be fearful of how they’ll match up. Nene and Oden is also a very solid tandem in the post. Can the Pacers match up or will they be overwhelmed? This squad, ever since the GM change, has had nothing but positivity in Indiana. Barnes, George and Darko have been putting in work. Barnes has seemed to flourish in the system, scoring 18ppg. I can see this series going to the wire. If the Pacers can create favorable matchups, they can win this series in 7. If not, I fear Roy will just be too much. My prediction: Raptors in 7.
