It’s a normal day in Minnesota, the sky is clear, the sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the Timberwolves are hard at work. The long and hard practice has just ended, some players are icing their knees, others are talking about what club they will venture too on their upcoming trip to South Beach. It seams practice is over. Few are still there, but in the corner, is 23-year-old Derrick Rose. Rose stays an extra hour every practice to get some extra drills in. “He’s always the first one in and the last one to leave.” Says team GM supermaor23. When asked what he thinks Rose’s ceiling is, he states, “Derrick, has no ceiling, the sky is the limit, he is a such a hard worker, nowadays these young kids are caught up with women, money and partying, but not [Rose]. He always comes into the gym with the mindset of what can I do to get better. I am honored to work with such a person. He is as humble as they come and as genuine of a person as you can find.” All the extra work is paying off, Derrick Rose has won the leagues first Player of the Month award. This season is his best of his career so far, he is averaging, 18 Points, 9 Assists, 6 Rebounds and 2 Steals a game. All while shooting an incredible 49% from the field.
So what does the future look like for Derrick Rose? We asked some fans who were walking around downtown Minneapolis. “He is the chosen one.” Says die hard Wolves fan Mark Mahlberg. Another longtime season ticket holder, Jack Micholson, had this to say, “I’ve been watching basketball my whole life, he(Rose) has a competitive fire in him when he steps on the court, he reminds me of Michael Jordan. When you see him out there, the way he leads his team, it just spells Michael to me.” Is he the next Michael? One can only wait and see, he has a long time before we can draw the comparisons, but for now he seems to be on the right track. Fans are calling for him to win MVP this year, at every game there are fans with Signs, and when he steps up to the foul stripe, the chants echo through each stadium, “M..V..P..M..V..P..M…V…P!”
So we ask ourselves, who is this young man. Can he be the player the NBA has been looking for? The scary thing is, the man is only 23 years old, and is nowhere near his prime. At his age he already lead the Wolves to the Finals last year where they lost to the Heat in 7 games. The Timberwolves look poised to make another Finals run this year. While Rose looks to be in talks for the Most Valuable Player award. Move over Lebron James, we have found our true Chosen One.
