Cue controversy....
A few great GM's left of this list, but I don't mean to discredit anybody. The top 5 GM's to me are the ones who have stood out the most in a long period of time. What I take into account are longevity, skill in trading, finding the right DC's and overall success that GM has brought to their respective teams. Some tenured GM's were left off the honorable mentions list, but I feel like every GM that made this article is well deserving. I plan to do another article at some point of the bottom 5 worst active GM's, but this one is first.
Honorable Mentions:
heatflash - 7 seasons - 1 Championship - 328-246
heatflash is off to a great start in his young career as NBADSL Bucks GM. I feel like he is one of the best gm's at acquiring the right players to fit his system. To my knowledge, in many of his seasons here so far he has ran an outside offense led by star PG Eddy Terrell. Key acquisitions such as Mark Aguirre, Detlef Schrempf and a good role playing big in Elvin Hayes helped heatflash secure his first ever NBADSL Championship. Heatflash is a very good gm at laying out and following his plan and most of all sticking to it. The Bucks past success has been credited to Daedalus, but if heatflash keeps up this pace, he just might pass Dae someday as best GM in Bucks history.
aar - 7 seasons - 1 Championship - 353-221
aar, like heatflash, is not a very long tenured GM in the NBADSL but you can just tell that he is one of the best already. 7 seasons in and he's already being compared to BrazilianDude when it comes to the "rape" trades. I don't know if he really believes his players have as good of value as he portrays in the shoutbox and various trade block threads, but half of the battle of being a great gm is overvaluing your players, and aar is one of the best at that aspect. After enjoying very immediate success after picking up for Celticfan, aar had two 50 win seasons and a 68 win season in his third season as gm. It was a breath of fresh air to see the Wizards finally have a top notch gm because before aar came along the Wizards were controlled by Celticfan and PistolPete, who were not the greatest of gm's to say the very least. Although I bet many East GM's would like the old Wizards GM's to make a comeback, I'm sure another part of them loves the competition that aar brings to the East year in and year out. Very very tough to leave him out of the Top 5, but there's no doubt in my mind he will make his way towards the top of the list if he continues this pace and gets a few more years under his belt as GM.
entrapy - 40 seasons - 2 Championships - 1,493-1,213
Wow. To leave off a GM such as entrapy was very hard but let's look at his strengths. He always seems to acquire a sure-fire superstar right before they hit their prime years, but always retains and builds around that player during their prime. Early in the NBADSL (when I came back here) he built around Kyrie Irving, then Jabari Parker and now it's Penny Hardaway's time. His trading always seems to be top notch, when it comes to acquiring that franchise type superstar. Entrapy also has 2 championships in 3 appearances, so leaving him as an honorable mention was probably the toughest decision in this article but I felt the 5 I chose were well-deserving of their spots.
5. Getbeard - 37 seasons - 1 Championship - 1,638-1,396
A well-tenured GM in the NBADSL, Getbeard comes in at #5. Beard is by far the best GM I've ever seen do so much with so little, but it seems that when he competes, on paper his team is never the best. But almost like the Spurs he seems to get the best out of each player by using the right system to suit their strengths on the court, while masking their weaknesses pretty well. Even when he had the best player in the league in Andrew Wiggins, the talent around him was not the greatest, but was always at the top of the West and in the thick of things with BrazilianDude, myself and SuperMaor when it came to the Western Conference playoffs. Beard might be most famous to most GM's for his absolute RAPE of Eastdog, but when you dive deeper you see Beard's success was not solely in the hands of Wiggins, but he did play a part in it. Never seems to be the preseason favorite, or offseason winner, but Getbeard always seems to get the most out of his players each year.
By far the best player in Beard's tenure as GM, led the Lakers to much regular season success, and even won a championship, while losing in two others.
4. Bannak - 27 seasons - 1 Championship - 1,173-1,041
By far the most racist GM in NBADSL history, Bannak has been with the Hawks for 27 seasons and led the team to great regular season success, but insanely bad playoff luck left them until recently, ringless. Bannak finally got his first championship in 2041, sweeping the almighty BrazilianDude. The championship was well-deserved to say the least and it looks like the Hawks are going to be a force to be reckon with for a long time with their young core in Peja and Klym Artamonov to go along with sure fired studs in Dan Majerle and of course, Dragan Bender. I don't think I've ever seen a GM win while being led by white international players, but it's worked wonders for Bannak so I don't see him switching up his strategy anytime soon.
Nikola Mirotic, one of the best players in both NBADSL and Hawks history has helped Bannak enjoy an incredible amount of regular season success and although he was never able to get over the hump and win a championship, Mirotic is still one of the best to come through the league.
3. Braz - 36 seasons - 4 Championships - 1,692-1,178
"The King of the Rape" BrazilianDude comes in at #3. Widely known for his negotiating tactics and taking advantage of lesser GM's, it seems that Braz always finds a GM to pick on when it comes to trades. I don't know how he does it sometimes, but you gotta give it up to him for consistently doing it. Like aar, Braz also overvalues his players to an extent, most famously Dee Brown. Braz has dominated the West, clinching a Finals appearance 8 times as Grizzlies GM earns him a spot at #3. There's no doubt in my mind that if Braz went East, he would likely have the same or close to the same success he's seen in the West, but being in a watered down (to say the least) Western Conference for his tenure has made it easy to dominate the West for years. Braz has gotten to the Finals 8 times, and won it 4 times and with his young core in Dirk, Artest and Damon Stoudamire, don't be surprised to see him rattle off a few more championships in the very near future.
Chris Paul, one of the best players to wear a Grizz jersey, led the team to much success both in the regular season and postseason.
2. Shorty - 32 seasons - 4 Championships - 1,563-1,061
Shorty, one of the few GM's that have been around for 30+ seasons (plus many before the restart, back in the old days when the NBADSL was just a sub-forum) has seen much success mainly with the Orlando Magic. Shorty has the best ever single season record in the NBADSL posting an incredible 75-7(!!!!) in 2027. If there was history from the old website I would rank Shorty #1 but only judging after the restart he is at #2. Earlier in his career as GM the trades were a little more ridiculous than they have been recently, but Shorty's trading seems to stick out as one of his strongest aspects of being an NBADSL GM. Shorty seems to always do what's best for his team now, the ultimate win-now type of GM. Pretty much always has star players while also fitting into a great system when it comes to making sure they play to the best of their ability in both stats and most importantly wins.
De'Ron Davis, one of the best big men in NBADSL and Orlando Magic history is pictured working out for Team USA. Although undersized, that didn't stop Davis from dominating in his prime years for the Magic and GM Shorty.
1. Bloop - 34 seasons - 6 Championships - 1,712-1,076
Bloop is the most winningest GM in NBADSL history and up until recently has never had a losing season in his career. With a record 6 NBADSL Championships I don't see where else I would rank Bloop other than #1. Bloop has also lost in the Finals twice, once to the Andrew Wiggins dominated Lakers and once to his buddy Braz. Seems as though Bloop always finds a way to acquire a top 5 player in the league at the time, in recent past with VJ King, Charlie Scott, David Robinson and others, now he has Shaquille O'Neal, who is arguably the best player in the NBADSL, to build around and try to win another ring or two. The fact that Bloop and Shorty have dominated the East, held a little more weight when it came to the rankings.
Charlie Scott was a franchise cornerstone for the Bulls for many years, resulting in multiple championships and individual awards. His playing style almost reminded me of a mini-LeBron type of player carrying the bulk of the load on both offense and defense.
